El alcalde de Pereira, Mauricio Salazar Peláez, generó controversia al no asistir al foro ciudadano realizado el pasado 7 de octubre sobre el futuro del Aeropuerto Internacional Matacaña, evento convocado por Vigía Cívica, Angora Cívica y la Fundación Universitaria del Área Andina. La ausencia del burgomaestre y de la gerencia de la terminal aérea en un espacio de participación ciudadana abierto a toda la comunidad, que contó con amplia asistencia y expertos en temas aeroportuarios, ha despertado interrogantes sobre el compromiso de la administración municipal con la infraestructura aeroportuaria de la capital risaraldense.

La inasistencia simultánea de ambas instituciones en un escenario donde se debatieron temas estratégicos para el desarrollo regional sugiere una posible falta de interés o una posición predefinida respecto a decisiones sobre el Aeropuerto Matacaña. Expertos en aviación y representantes de organizaciones cívicas presentaron análisis y propuestas durante el encuentro, pero sin la presencia de los principales tomadores de decisiones, el diálogo quedó incompleto. Esta ausencia contrasta con la responsabilidad que debería asumir la administración municipal en espacios de deliberación pública sobre infraestructuras de importancia estratégica.
