LIONS, AN INSTITUTION BUILT ON SOLID BASES AND PRINCIPLES.

Lions were conceived in the prodigious mind of a man named MELVIN JONES, inspired by the purest feelings of solidarity with a heart full of kindness, he had the courage to present to a group of friends and colleagues the idea that he surely matured and organized for a long time, responding to his repeated personal question «What would happen if these men, successful for their drive, intelligence and mission, put all their talent at the service of the world community.

Another giant in overcoming her own physical limitations and expressing what God can do through wonderful beings, HELEN ADAMS KELLER, appeared at the 1925 international convention and, with her invitation, challenged the lions to become the champions of the blind in the crusade against darkness.”

MELVIN JONES’ proposal was enthusiastically received, and the growing number of lions that by that year already swelled the membership of the young institution, turned it into the most important hour of service to the community, bringing light to many visually impaired people and preventing many others from suffering the horrors of gloom and darkness.

World Lionism, aware of its immense beneficial contribution, in its desire to lessen the impact of great human tragedies, has turned that activity into its greatest work of service, with which its image has been magnified before the grateful eyes of the world. So great has been the work carried out by Lionism throughout the world since its inception, so perfect has its structure, and so growing and admired has its image that, from very early times in its existence, it has been able to develop another powerful mechanism for financing its work, such as “THE LIONS INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION”.
