REFLEXIÓN RUDAFRA DEL SÁBADO 25 DE ABRIL 2026:
GUARDIANES DE LA VIDA SILENCIOSA: UNA REFLEXIÓN SOBRE EL VETERINARIO
Un veterinario es, por definición, un ser excepcional. Su labor trasciende la ciencia médica para convertirse en un acto de devoción, pues está dotado de un amor especial por los animales. A ellos dedica no solo sus años de estudio, sino todos sus conocimientos y su voluntad inquebrantable para cuidarlos y defenderlos del dolor y el abandono.
En la consulta y en el campo, el veterinario se convierte en la voz de quienes no pueden hablar. Su profesión potencia el amor humano y lo canaliza con sabiduría en favor de nuestros más leales compañeros de viaje terreno: los animales. Al sanar a una criatura, el veterinario no solo restaura la salud de un cuerpo, sino que fortalece el vínculo sagrado que nos une con la naturaleza.
Honremos a quienes han decidido hacer del bienestar animal su razón de ser, recordándonos que la grandeza de una persona se mide por su capacidad de proteger a los más vulnerables. -Rudafra.

Rubén Dario Franco Narvaez: Sábado 25 de abril 2026 – Día Mundial del Veterinario.
El Día Mundial del Veterinario se celebra el último sábado de abril de cada año y su objetivo principal es reconocer y reivindicar la labor que estos profesionales desempeñan para que los animales en todo el mundo gocen de buena salud, protección, seguridad alimentaria y la puesta en marcha del comercio seguro.
Desde la antigüedad, se sabe que el origen de la veterinaria tiene muchos siglos. Se cree que sus albores comienzan desde un pasado remoto cuando los seres humanos tuvieron que convivir con distintas especies del reino animal. Los primeros vestigios que se conocen sobre esta noble profesión son unas tablillas cuneiformes de aproximadamente 2.600 a. C. Sin embargo, tendrían que pasar muchos años para que esta medicina fuese valorada y aceptada. En Egipto y la India también hubo información tanto en los papiros como en la literatura de los vedas referente a la medicina veterinaria. Es a partir del 1.760 a. C con el llamado «Código de Hamurabi» cuando la veterinaria se desarrolla y evoluciona hasta nuestros días. Existe un tratado llamado «Anatomia del Caballo» escrito por el italiano Carlo Ruini en el año 1598, donde se describe de forma detallada todo lo referente a esta especie.
Los veterinarios de todo el mundo tienen un rol fundamental dentro de cualquier sociedad. Gracias a ellos, contamos con verdaderos profesionales de la medicina capaces de atender a cualquier animal e inclusive contribuir a salvar sus vidas en situaciones extremas. La medicina veterinaria vista desde varios enfoques resulta fundamental para la prevención de muchas enfermedades transmitidas por los animales y que afectan a los seres humanos. En este sentido, estos profesionales dedican gran cantidad de su tiempo, no sólo a cuidar y proteger a los animales, sino que también trabajan arduamente para impedir contagios, infecciones y otras afecciones que podrán ser mortales para el hombre.

World Veterinarian Day is celebrated on the last Saturday of April each year, and its main objective is to recognize and celebrate the work these professionals do to ensure that animals worldwide enjoy good health, protection, food security, and the implementation of safe trade.
Veterinary medicine has been known since ancient times. It is believed that its origins date back to a remote past when humans had to coexist with different species of the animal kingdom. The earliest known traces of this noble profession are cuneiform tablets dating back to approximately 2600 BC. However, many years would pass before this medicine was valued and accepted. In Egypt and India, information about veterinary medicine was also found in papyri and Vedic literature. It was from 1760 BC onward, with the so-called «Code of Hammurabi,» that veterinary medicine began to develop and evolve to the present day. A treatise called «Anatomy of the Horse,» written by the Italian Carlo Ruini in 1598, describes everything related to this species in detail.
Veterinarians worldwide play a fundamental role in any society. Thanks to them, we have true medical professionals capable of caring for any animal and even helping to save their lives in extreme situations.
