FRANCIA MÁRQUEZ IRÁ POR TERCERA VEZ A ÁFRICA: ESTE SERÁ EL PROPÓSITO DE SU NUEVA VISITA DIPLOMÁTICA.

La vicepresidenta Francia Márquez llegará a África este 26 de agosto y estará en ese continente hasta el 1.º de septiembre en visitas diplomáticas a distintos países. SEMANA ya había revelado que la alta funcionaria del Gobierno estaría en este periplo.

Según informaron desde la Vicepresidencia, se trata de la tercera visita oficial de Márquez a este continente. En este caso estará en Etiopía, Mozanbique, Madagascar y Nigeria.

El principal propósito es fortalecer y ampliar las relaciones diplomáticas, económicas, educativas, políticas y culturales de cooperación entre Colombia y las naciones africanas.

La delegación que acompañará a Márquez estará integrada por representantes de la Cancillería; Ministerio de Comercio, Industria y Turismo, el de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural; Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible; el Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario (ICA); el Instituto Nacional de Vigilancia de Medicamentos y Alimentos (Invima); la Agencia Presidencial para la Cooperación (APC); la Aeronáutica Civil; el Fondo Mujer Libre y Productiva; y Procolombia.

Desde la Vicepresidencia justificaron que en las visitas de 2023 y 2024 se adelantaron gestiones para fortalecer estos lazos, lo que permitió abrir embajadas en Senegal y Etiopía, y consolidar un relacionamiento diplomático en Sudáfrica, Kenia, Ghana, Camerún, Mozambique, Madagascar, la República Democrática del Congo y Nigeria.

“Nuestro país cuenta hoy con 20 memorandos de entendimiento y acuerdos para diversas entidades del Gobierno nacional con el continente africano. Estos acuerdos abarcan asuntos clave en materia de intercambio comercial y cultural, educación superior, conectividad, construcción de paz y equidad de género”, afirmaron desde la Vicepresidencia.

En ese sentido, en este nuevo viaje se buscará fortalecer la relación diplomática con Mozambique y Madagascar para tener una estrategia entre la Comunidad de Estados Latinoamericanos y Caribeños (Celac) y la Unión Africana, ya que Colombia tiene a cargo la presidencia pro tempore.

Se espera la firma de acuerdos comerciales, culturales y diplomáticos en encuentros con representantes de ese país, en los que se conversaría sobre cómo impulsar las exportaciones en sectores como la producción agropecuaria, especialmente de café y cacao, entre otros alimentos; así como alianzas con la industria farmacéutica, energías limpias y hasta productos de origen étnico como el viche.

También se explorarán mecanismos para fortalecer la cooperación en el marco de la Zona de Libre Comercio Africana, que es considerada la más grande del mundo.

FRANCIA MÁRQUEZ WILL GO TO AFRICA FOR THE THIRD TIME: THIS WILL BE THE PURPOSE OF HER NEW DIPLOMATIC VISIT.

Vice President Francia Márquez will arrive in Africa on August 26 and will remain on the continent until September 1, on diplomatic visits to various countries. SEMANA had previously revealed that the senior government official would be on this trip.

According to reports from the Vice Presidency, this is Márquez’s third official visit to the continent. This time, she will visit Ethiopia, Mozambique, Madagascar, and Nigeria.

The main purpose is to strengthen and expand diplomatic, economic, educational, political, and cultural cooperation between Colombia and African nations.

The delegation accompanying Márquez will be composed of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism; the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development; the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA); the National Institute for Drug and Food Surveillance (Invima); the Presidential Agency for Cooperation (APC); the Civil Aeronautics Agency; the Free and Productive Women’s Fund; and Procolombia.

The Vice Presidency explained that during the 2023 and 2024 visits, efforts were made to strengthen these ties, which led to the opening of embassies in Senegal and Ethiopia and the consolidation of diplomatic relations in South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Cameroon, Mozambique, Madagascar, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Nigeria.

“Our country currently has 20 memoranda of understanding and agreements for various national government entities with the African continent. These agreements cover key issues in trade and cultural exchange, higher education, connectivity, peacebuilding, and gender equality,” the Vice Presidency stated.

In this regard, this new trip will seek to strengthen diplomatic relations with Mozambique and Madagascar to establish a strategy between the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the African Union, as Colombia holds the pro tempore presidency.

The signing of trade, cultural, and diplomatic agreements is expected in meetings with representatives of that country, where discussions will include ways to boost exports in sectors such as agricultural production, especially coffee and cocoa, among other foods; as well as partnerships with the pharmaceutical industry, clean energy, and even ethnic products such as viche.

Mechanisms to strengthen cooperation within the framework of the African Free Trade Area, considered the largest in the world, will also be explored.
