El cerebro o «materia gris», como se le conoce comúnmente, es uno de los órganos vitales de nuestro cuerpo. Controla las actividades cognitivas (pensar, abstraer, leer) y reacciones del organismo (acciones y funciones corporales en respuesta a estímulos sensoriales). Por ello, el 22 de julio se celebra el Día Mundial del Cerebro.
Fue la Federación Mundial de Neurología (WFN por sus siglas en inglés) quien elevó su voz para proclamar el Día Mundial del Cerebro, para celebrar el 22 de julio, promoviendo de esta manera la necesidad de crear conciencia sobre su potencial, riesgos y enfermedades.
Particularidades del cerebro humano: Consume un 20% de la energía y oxígeno que consume el organismo. / En una partícula casi microscópica se pueden localizar alrededor de 100.000 neuronas. / Representa el 2% del peso corporal. / Está conformado por un 73% de agua. / Transporta la información a una velocidad de 268 millas por hora. Más rápido que un vehículo de Fórmula 1. / La funcionalidad del lado izquierdo del cerebro está asociada con el análisis, lógica, matemáticas, lenguaje y secuencia. Mientras que el lado derecho desarrolla la creatividad, la intuición, los sentimientos, la imaginación y las artes.

The brain, or «gray matter,» as it is commonly known, is one of our body’s vital organs. It controls cognitive activities (thinking, abstracting, reading) and bodily reactions (actions and bodily functions in response to sensory stimuli). For this reason, July 22 is celebrated as World Brain Day.
It was the World Federation of Neurology (WFN) that raised its voice to proclaim World Brain Day, to celebrate July 22, thus promoting the need to raise awareness about its potential, risks, and diseases.
Particularities of the human brain: It consumes 20% of the body’s energy and oxygen. / Around 100,000 neurons can be found in a nearly microscopic particle. / It represents 2% of body weight. / It is made up of 73% water. / It transports information at a speed of 268 miles per hour. Faster than a Formula 1 car. / The functionality of the left side of the brain is associated with analysis, logic, mathematics, language, and sequencing.
