Villa Santana, un territorio resiliente, multicultural y con determinación de transformación para ser epicentro turístico y de paz.

La comuna Villa Santana fue el escenario de una jornada de reconocimiento territorial liderada por el consorcio seleccionado por el Ministerio de Comercio, Industria y Turismo – MINCIT, acompañado por la Secretaría de Desarrollo Económico y Competitividad y de Cultura, que tuvo como objetivo identificar los barrios, espacios culturales, artísticos y sociales que, en conjunto, pueden consolidarse como puntos clave dentro de una futura ruta de interés turístico para la ciudad de Pereira.

Esta actividad marca el inicio de un proceso integral, enmarcado en el programa Destinos de Paz del MINCIT, cuya meta es que la comunidad sea el cimiento de esta estrategia, liderando la construcción de una nueva narrativa para su territorio.

«La construcción participativa de la Ruta Turística marca el inicio de un proceso donde son los propios habitantes quienes identifican la riqueza cultural, natural y social de Villa Santana y comienzan a tejer una narrativa que refleje su identidad, su historia y la transformación del territorio”, especificó Mónica Narváez, coordinadora del equipo de cooperación de la Secretaría de Desarrollo Económico y Competitividad de la Alcaldía.

Durante la actividad se realizó un recorrido acompañado por cinco líderes de colectivos comunitarios que permitió reconocer los avances alcanzados por los procesos culturales y sociales, visibilizar sus logros y apropiación del territorio, así como integrar sus sueños y proyecciones como parte del diseño participativo de la futura ruta turística. 

Esta jornada fortaleció el sentido colectivo, reafirmó el compromiso con la paz y el desarrollo, y permitió conectar los esfuerzos de cada colectivo, en una visión común de transformación para Villa Santana.

El ejercicio reflejó la esperanza y el compromiso de la comunidad con la transformación social de Villa Santana, reconociendo el respaldo institucional de la Alcaldía de Pereira y el interés del alcalde Mauricio Salazar en abrir caminos reales hacia el cambio. 

Tal como lo destacó Luis Eduardo Merchán, líder social de la comuna, esta actividad beneficia en distintos aspectos, ya que promueve el comercio, el turismo y la cultura, a la vez que articula los diferentes colectivos que han venido trabajando en los barrios del sector. En palabras del líder, “se trata de un avance positivo para una zona que ha sido una de las más marginadas y violentas de la ciudad, permitiendo convertirla en una comuna turística a través del emprendimiento y el cambio social”. 

Esta visión proyecta a Villa Santana no solo como un territorio resiliente, sino como un espacio con potencial turístico, cultural y comunitario, capaz de convertirse en un referente dentro de la ciudad de Pereira.

The Villa Santana community was the setting for a territorial reconnaissance event led by the consortium selected by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism (MINCIT), accompanied by the Secretariat of Economic Development and Competitiveness and Culture. The objective was to identify neighborhoods, cultural, artistic, and social spaces that, together, can be consolidated as key points within a future tourist attraction for the city of Pereira.

This activity marks the beginning of a comprehensive process, framed within the MINCIT’s Peace Destinations program, whose goal is for the community to be the foundation of this strategy, leading the construction of a new narrative for its territory.

«The participatory construction of the Tourist Route marks the beginning of a process in which the residents themselves identify the cultural, natural, and social richness of Villa Santana and begin to weave a narrative that reflects their identity, their history, and the transformation of the territory,» explained Mónica Narváez, coordinator of the cooperation team of the Mayor’s Office’s Secretariat of Economic Development and Competitiveness.

During the activity, a tour was led by five community group leaders. This allowed them to recognize the progress made through cultural and social processes, highlight their achievements and ownership of the territory, and integrate their dreams and visions into the participatory design of the future tourist route.

This event strengthened the sense of community, reaffirmed the commitment to peace and development, and connected the efforts of each group in a common vision of transformation for Villa Santana.

The exercise reflected the community’s hope and commitment to the social transformation of Villa Santana, recognizing the institutional support of the Pereira City Hall and Mayor Mauricio Salazar’s interest in paving the way for change.

As Luis Eduardo Merchán, a community leader in the community, highlighted, this activity is beneficial in several ways, promoting commerce, tourism, and culture, while also connecting the various groups that have been working in the area’s neighborhoods. In the leader’s words, «This is a positive step forward for an area that has been one of the most marginalized and violent in the city, allowing it to become a tourist community through entrepreneurship and social change.»

This vision projects Villa Santana not only as a resilient territory, but as a space with tourism, cultural, and community potential, capable of becoming a landmark within the city of Pereira.
