ASI ES EL RITUAL SECRETO DEL CÓNCLAVE.

LA IGLESIA SE PREPARA PARA UNA NUEVA ELECCIÓN PAPAL.

Una tradición milenaria, cuando un papa muere o, como en el caso de Benedito 16, renuncia, y el proceso para elegir a su sucesor se activa de inmediato.

Todo comienza con la convocatoria del cónclave, una reunión donde solo los cardenales con derecho a voto menores de 80 años pueden participar.

El numero de votantes esta limitado a 120, aunque en total hay 222 cardenales en la iglesia católica.

Todos son considerados papables, es decir, potenciales candidatos para ocupar el trono de San Pedro.

Una vez el papa deja su cargo, los cardenales tienen entre 15 y 20 días para llegar al vaticano.

Cuando todo están listo, se celebra una misa especial y liego se encierran en la capilla Sixtina, sin acceso al mundo exterior.

Ni celulares ni noticias, ni contacto con nadie.

Desde ese momento hasta que halla un papa, el silencio y el secreto son absolutos.

Dentro del cónclave, los cardenales votan hasta 4 veces por día, cada voto es secreto y las papeletas se queman después de cada ronda.

Si el humo que sale por la chimenea es negro significa que no hubo consenso a la elección y la elección sigue.

Pero si es blanco, la iglesia ya tiene un nuevo líder.

Cuando un cardenal alcanza los dos tercios de los votos, se le pregunta si acepta el cargo y que nombre tomaría como Papa, luego, el elegido es llevado a una habitación especial llamada “puerto de las lágrimas” donde se pone la sotana blanca y reza en privado.

Después de este momento íntimo, el nuevo pontífice aparece en el balcón de la basílica de San Pedro se pronuncia la famosa frase en latín: “habemus Papam” seguida de su nombre y el titulo que llevara.

A centuries-old tradition, when a pope dies or, as in the case of Benedict XVI, resigns, the process to elect his successor is immediately activated.

It all begins with the convocation of the conclave, a meeting where only voting cardinals under the age of 80 can participate.

The number of voters is limited to 120, although there are 222 cardinals in the Catholic Church.
