Ciento diez humildes viviendas levantadas con guadua, esterilla y catón; 160 familias y más de 800 personas damnificadas, es el doloroso saldo del incendio ocurrido en la madrugada del pasado viernes en el asentamiento irregular conocido como “El Futuro Bajo”, en un sector contiguo al barrio Villa Helena, en Cuba.

Apenas h ubo tiempo en medio de confusión y el caos que generó la alerta de los afectados y le afán de ponerse a salvo, de despertar a los pequeños muchos todavía de bazos, que a esa hora todavía dormían y de levantar los ancianos y ponerlos a salvo de la furia y la velocidad de las llamas que en instantes consumieron todo lo que  encontraron a su paso.

Varias observaciones e inquietudes quedan, a pesar de la rápida reacción de los organismos de atención de emergencias y de la buena voluntad de las autoridades locales  y departamentales para apoyar a los damnificados, de ese lamentable hecho y que se den analizar y de tener en cuenta en el futuro,

.Lo primero es invitar a que se recurra al auto albergue par atender las familias que perdieron su techo, y anunciar que a los resanes se les busque alojamiento en hoteles de la ciudad o en un albergue temporal e inclusive decretar la calamidad pública, no es suficiente en este momento, ni es tranquilizadoras para quienes todo lo han perdido y tienen  en la memoria las promesas incumplidas a los damnificados de otras tragedias ocurridas en la ciudad.

One hundred and ten humble homes built with guadua, matting and catón; 160 families and more than 800 people affected are the painful toll of the fire that occurred in the early hours of last Friday in the irregular settlement known as “El Futuro Bajo”, in a sector adjacent to the Villa Helena neighborhood, in Cuba.

There was barely time in the midst of confusion and chaos generated by the alert of those affected and the desire to get to safety, to wake up the little ones, many still suffering from spleens, who at that time were still sleeping, and to get the elderly up and put them to sleep. except from the fury and speed of the flames that in moments consumed everything in their path.

Several observations and concerns remain, despite the rapid reaction of the emergency response agencies and the good will of the local and departmental authorities to support the victims, of this unfortunate fact and that must be analyzed and taken into account. in the future,

The first thing is to invite people to resort to self-shelter to care for the families that lost their shelter, and announce that accommodation for the homeless be sought in hotels in the city or in a temporary shelter and even to decree a public calamity, it is not sufficient at this moment, nor is it reassuring for those who have lost everything and have in their memory the unfulfilled promises to the victims of other tragedies that occurred in the city.
