SER PEREIRANO ES …

Ser PEREIRANO es un honor, que se difunde por los 207 países del globo terráqueo; luciendo en el corazón la bandera aurirroja, con su significado: «Con la sangre roja de los hijos de Pereira, se yergue la Libertad en la riqueza de su suelo».
Hoy, viernes 26 de septiembre 2025, celebramos -erguidamente- el DÍA DE LA PEREIRANIDAD. Conmemoración que debemos, a tres ilustres periodistas: Luis Alberto Ruiz Peñuela que motivó a Alonso Molina Corrales para elaborar el proyecto (como concejal de Pereira), y Miguel Álvarez de los Ríos quien acuñó la palabra PEREIRANIDAD.
El Concejo Municipal de Pereira, mediante El Acuerdo 035 de 2008, en su Artículo 4: “Declárase y como homenaje al maestro Luis Carlos González, el día 26 de septiembre de cada año, como el DÍA DE LA PEREIRANIDAD…”.
El himno a Pereira (letra del pereirano Julio Cano y música del maestro Luis A. Calvo), recrea nuestro espíritu matecaña; especialmente, con su Coro: “Salve al esfuerzo de mis heroicos / y buenos hijos que con amor, / me dieron nombre, me dieron fama, me hicieron grande, me dan honor.”; y su séptima estrofa: “Vivo orgullosa de mis mujeres / y de mis flores que hermanas son / por los encantos y por las galas /y los efluvios del corazón.”.
Para el pereirano, estos son los 7 mandamientos:
1- Ser pereirano, es: Predicar y practicar amor por la ciudad.
2- Ser pereirano, es: participar activamente, con sello cívico, en todas las tareas progresistas de “La Perla del Otún”.
3- Ser pereirano, es: demostrar agradecimiento por las obras cívicas, construidas por nuestros mayores: Aeropuerto Matecaña, Villa Olímpica, Batallón San Mateo, Universidad Tecnológica, Universidad Católica, Hospital Universitario San Jorge; Catedrales, Templos; escuelas, colegios; periódicos, emisoras; barrios, parques, monumentos; etc.
4- Ser pereirano, es: exaltar a nuestras mujeres, reconociendo su inteligencia, belleza, superación y eje central de cada hogar de “La Ciudad Prodigio”.
5- Ser pereirano, es: recibir a los visitantes con la frase, del maestro Luciano García Gómez, pronunciada en 1947: “Aquí no hay forasteros, todos somos pereiranos”.
6- Ser pereirano, es: decirle a quién hable mal de la ciudad, que emigre al desierto para que la arena sepulte sus palabras.
7- Ser pereirano, es: seguir los pasos de nuestros mayores, con: dignidad, sentido de pertenencia, honradez, trabajo y civismo en “La Ciudad sin Puertas”.

BEING A PEREIRANO IS…

Being a PEREIRANO is an honor, recognized in all 207 countries of the world; proudly displaying the gold and red flag in our hearts, with its meaning: «With the red blood of the children of Pereira, Liberty rises on the richness of its land.»
Today, Friday, September 26, 2025, we proudly celebrate PEREIRAN IDENTITY DAY. This commemoration is a tribute to three illustrious journalists: Luis Alberto Ruiz Peñuela, who motivated Alonso Molina Corrales to develop the project (as a Pereira city council member), and Miguel Álvarez de los Ríos, who coined the term PEREIRAN IDENTITY.
The Pereira City Council, through Ordinance 035 of 2008, in its Article 4: “Declares, and as a tribute to the teacher Luis Carlos González, September 26 of each year as PEREIRAN IDENTITY DAY…”.
The Pereira anthem (lyrics by Pereira native Julio Cano and music by Maestro Luis A. Calvo) captures our Pereira spirit; especially with its chorus: “Hail to the efforts of my heroic / and good children who with love, / gave me a name, gave me fame, made me great, and bring me honor.”; and its seventh verse: “I am proud of my women / and of my flowers, who are like sisters / for their charm, their beauty / and the warmth of their hearts.”
For a Pereira native, these are the 7 commandments:
1- Being a Pereira native is: Preaching and practicing love for the city.
2- Being a Pereira native is: Actively participating, with civic spirit, in all the progressive endeavors of “The Pearl of the Otún.”
3- Being a Pereira native is: Demonstrating gratitude for the civic works built by our ancestors: Matecaña Airport, Olympic Village, San Mateo Battalion, Technological University, Catholic University, San Jorge University Hospital; Cathedrals, Churches; schools, colleges; newspapers, radio stations; neighborhoods, parks, monuments; etc.
4- Being a native of Pereira means: celebrating our women, recognizing their intelligence, beauty, resilience, and central role in every household in «The City of Wonders.»
5- Being a native of Pereira means: welcoming visitors with the words of the renowned figure Luciano García Gómez, spoken in 1947: «Here there are no strangers, we are all citizens of Pereira.»
6- Being a native of Pereira means: telling anyone who speaks ill of the city to go to the desert so that the sand may bury their words.
7-Being a native of Pereira means: following in the footsteps of our ancestors, with dignity, a sense of belonging, honesty, hard work, and civic responsibility in «The City Without Gates.».
