La Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas proclamó el 5 de marzo como Día Internacional para Concienciar sobre el Desarme y la No Proliferación, a través de su Resolución A/RES/77/51.
El objetivo de esta efeméride es promover la paz y la seguridad en todos los países del mundo, haciéndolo extensivo a todas las personas del mundo.
Con la creación de esta efeméride se pretende reafirmar las políticas de desarme y la no proliferación, especialmente en lo concerniente a las armas de destrucción masiva, así como el firme compromiso de los Estados Miembros en la adopción de medidas concretas para su cumplimiento.
Los Gobiernos, las organizaciones intergubernamentales, la sociedad civil y las organizaciones no gubernamentales, entre otros sectores no menos importantes ejercen un rol fundamental en la promoción de la educación para el desarme y la no proliferación. Representa un instrumento para la paz, la seguridad, el desarme y la no proliferación a nivel mundial.

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed March 5 as the International Day for Raising Awareness on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, through its Resolution A/RES/77/51.
The objective of this commemoration is to promote peace and security in all countries of the world, extending it to all people of the world.
The creation of this commemoration is intended to reaffirm disarmament and non-proliferation policies, especially with regard to weapons of mass destruction, as well as the firm commitment of Member States to adopt concrete measures for their fulfillment.
