Mayor Diana Agudelo: el amor de una madre que también sirve a Colombia.

En el corazón del Eje Cafetero, donde los soldados del Ejército Nacional trabajan día y noche por la seguridad y el bienestar de los colombianos, hay una mujer que representa la fortaleza, el liderazgo y el amor incondicional de una madre. La mayor Diana Agudelo, oficial del Ejército Nacional, ha construido una historia de servicio marcada por la disciplina militar y la sensibilidad de quien también libra, desde el hogar, las batallas más importantes de la vida.

Al verla portar su uniforme, refleja el carácter firme de una oficial que no deja nada al azar. Cuidadosa en cada detalle, amable en el trato, pero decidida en el mando, la mayor Diana hace parte de las primeras mujeres de arma que ingresaron al Ejército Nacional en 2009, abriendo camino para muchas otras mujeres que hoy sirven a Colombia con honor y valentía.

Durante 17 años de servicio ha asumido diferentes responsabilidades como comandante de pelotón, comandante de compañía y, actualmente, como oficial de operaciones del Batallón de Apoyo y Servicio para el Combate. Desde allí lidera a los hombres y mujeres encargados de garantizar el sostenimiento logístico de las tropas que cumplen la misión en Caldas, Quindío y Risaralda, llevando hasta las áreas de operaciones capacidades fundamentales como abastecimiento, transporte, sanidad, armamento e intendencia.

Su liderazgo no solo se refleja en la disciplina y el bienestar de sus soldados, sino también en el reto histórico de convertirse en la primera mujer en ocupar este cargo dentro de la unidad militar. Una responsabilidad que ha asumido con compromiso, demostrando a diario que la disciplina y el carácter no tienen género. Sus superiores reconocen en ella a una oficial íntegra, entregada y profundamente humana.

Pero detrás del uniforme también hay una mamá. Hace cuatro años la vida le entregó quizás la misión más desafiante y hermosa: convertirse en madre de mellizos. Anthony y Samuel llegaron para transformar su mundo y enseñarle que el amor también puede multiplicarse mientras se cumplen los deberes con la patria. Fueron tiempos difíciles, marcados por los cuidados especiales del programa Mamá Canguro y las preocupaciones propias de la salud de sus hijos, etapas que enfrentó con la misma valentía con la que asume cada misión militar.

En casa procura estar presente, abrazar, escuchar y formar a sus hijos con principios y valores. Como toda madre, sufre cuando ellos se enferman o se caen, y asegura que, si la situación lo requiere, deja cualquier actividad para correr a acompañarlos. Sin embargo, también ha tenido que explicarles por qué debe volver a ponerse el uniforme y salir nuevamente al cumplimiento del deber.

“¿Otra vez te debes ir, mamá?”, le preguntan Anthony y Samuel cada vez que la ven alistarse. Entonces, con amor y convicción, ella responde: “Mamá tiene que irse otra vez a cumplir la misión por el futuro de Colombia y el futuro de mis hijos”.

A lo largo de su carrera, la mayor Diana Agudelo ha enfrentado momentos difíciles en el ámbito familiar y personal, pero jamás ha dejado de honrar el juramento que hizo a la patria y a la institución. Su mayor fortaleza es la empatía: ponerse en los zapatos de los demás, entender las necesidades de sus subalternos, liderar desde el ejemplo y equilibrar, con enorme esfuerzo, el amor de madre y el compromiso de soldado.

Hoy, su historia se convierte también en un homenaje a las madres colombianas que, desde distintos escenarios, trabajan sin descanso por sus familias y por el país. Mujeres valientes que, como la mayor Diana Agudelo, demuestran que el amor de una madre también se viste de uniforme y que detrás de cada misión cumplida hay un corazón que late por Colombia y por sus hijos.

In the heart of the Coffee Region, where soldiers of the National Army work day and night for the safety and well-being of Colombians, there is a woman who embodies the strength, leadership, and unconditional love of a mother. Major Diana Agudelo, an officer in the National Army, has built a history of service marked by military discipline and the sensitivity of someone who also fights life’s most important battles from home.

Seeing her in her uniform reflects the firm character of an officer who leaves nothing to chance. Meticulous in every detail, kind in her dealings, yet decisive in command, Major Diana is among the first women to join the National Army in 2009, paving the way for many other women who today serve Colombia with honor and courage.

For 17 years of service, she has held various positions, including platoon commander, company commander, and currently, operations officer of the Combat Support and Service Battalion. From this position, she leads the men and women responsible for ensuring the logistical support of troops serving in Caldas, Quindío, and Risaralda, delivering essential capabilities such as supplies, transportation, medical care, weaponry, and logistics to the operational areas.

Her leadership is reflected not only in the discipline and well-being of her soldiers but also in the historic achievement of becoming the first woman to hold this position within the military unit. She has embraced this responsibility with unwavering commitment, demonstrating daily that discipline and character are genderless. Her superiors recognize her as an officer of integrity, dedication, and profound compassion.

But behind the uniform, there is also a mother. Four years ago, life presented her with perhaps the most challenging and beautiful mission: becoming the mother of twins. Anthony and Samuel arrived to transform her world and teach her that love can also multiply while fulfilling one’s duties to the country. Those were difficult times, marked by the special care of the Kangaroo Mother Care program and the worries inherent in her sons’ health—stages she faced with the same courage she brings to every military mission.

At home, she strives to be present, to hug, to listen to, and to raise her sons with principles and values. Like any mother, she suffers when they get sick or fall, and she affirms that, if the situation requires it, she drops everything to rush to their side. However, she has also had to explain to them why she must put on her uniform again and go out once more to fulfill her duty.

«Do you have to go again, Mom?» Anthony and Samuel ask her every time they see her getting ready. Then, with love and conviction, she replies: «Mom has to go again to fulfill her mission for the future of Colombia and the future of my children.»

Throughout her career, Major Diana Agudelo has faced difficult moments in her family and personal life, but she has never ceased to honor the oath she swore to her country and her institution. Her greatest strength is empathy: putting herself in others’ shoes, understanding the needs of her subordinates, leading by example, and balancing, with enormous effort, a mother’s love and a soldier’s commitment.

Today, her story also becomes a tribute to Colombian mothers who, from different spheres, work tirelessly for their families and for the country.
