“LA PAZ TOTAL SE VOLVIÓ UN CAOS TOTAL, HOY DEBEMOS CONTAR CON UNA FUERZA PÚBLICA FORTALECIDA”.

El turno le correspondió a Sergio Fajardo, exgobernador de Antioquia y precandidato presidencial, quien habló de su estrategia para fortalecer la educación superior y del apoyo de distintos sectores a su candidatura. También defendió la llegada de quien sería el mismo estratega del entonces candidato Gustavo Petro a su campaña.

Usted ha sido docente por muchos años. Empiezo hablando de un tema que preocupa a los estudiantes del Icetex y por mencionar algunos de esos males, por ejemplo, recorte en el número de cupos, demoras en los desembolsos y altas tasas de interés, pues son muchos los estudiantes que hoy se quedaron sin universidad. ¿Cuál va a ser su estrategia para mejorar y garantizar la educación superior?

Hay dos componentes complementarios: la educación pública y la privada. Las dos las queremos fortalecer. Yo creo en la educación pública-privada de calidad, desde la primera infancia hasta la universidad.

Tenemos que fortalecer las universidades públicas y al mismo tiempo trabajar con las universidades privadas que son cerca de 50% de los estudiantes de nuestro país y romper con el gran error que cometió esta administración del presidente Petro de dañar el Icetex. Debemos recuperar los préstamos, multiplicarlos, garantizar, por ejemplo, que un estudiante pueda empezar a pagar después, cuando salga de estudiar, tenga un trabajo y una porción razonable.

Pasemos a un tema muy controversial y que no es menor, y tiene que ver con el estratega que hoy está en su campaña, y que fue el mismo que tuvo el candidato Gustavo Petro. Le hablo de Antoni Gutiérrez-Rubí, ¿cómo llegó él a su campaña?

Como yo he hecho siempre con las personas que trabajan conmigo, yo lo escogí y lo busqué, yo hablé con él y yo respondo por las personas que escojo. Y por eso, por ejemplo, cuando he sido alcalde y gobernador, no hay una sola persona asociada conmigo investigada por corrupción o que haya tenido que ser condenada por la justicia.

Soy líder y las instrucciones y el trabajo que hacemos lo determino yo y lo estamos realizando muy bien, con una campaña bonita. El gran lanzamiento fue el 20 de julio, estamos multiplicándonos por todas partes. Si hay una sola acción que ustedes consideren que no se corresponde con lo que yo digo, ustedes lo pueden señalar.

Pero, candidato, cuando uno escoge a una estratega de campaña es porque le gustó su trabajo en otras campañas. ¿Hay algo que va a adoptar de la campaña del entonces candidato Gustavo Petro, por ejemplo?

yo lo llamé, yo lo escogí trabajé con él, soy yo el responsable. Estamos haciéndolo muy bien. Por eso yo digo que la envidia es mejor suscitarla que sentirla.

Hablemos ahora de la paz total, candidato, que es considerada por muchos, por diferentes sectores, como un fracaso. ¿Cuál va a ser esa estrategia en materia de seguridad, por ejemplo?

La paz total se convirtió en caos total. Si no tenemos la Fuerza Pública fuerte y sólida, no se puede construir, esto es algo que tenemos que hacer. Necesitamos así a las autoridades para que después lleguen las intervenciones del Estado en el Catatumbo, en Guaviare, en el Cauca, en tantas partes de Colombia.

Para finalizar, esta es su tercera aspiración para llegar a la Casa de Nariño. ¿Considera hacer alianzas con todos los sectores políticos, incluida la izquierda?

Yo recibo apoyos políticos de todas las personas. Las campañas tienen diferentes tiempos. Toda persona que quiera votar por mí, puede votar por mí. El gobierno que viene va a ser el más difícil en la historia. Una persona que vaya a unir como yo, tiene que ser capaz de convocar a personas de la izquierda, del centro y la derecha. Yo sé convocar y personas valiosas hay en todos los sectores. Estoy trabajando para unir a Colombia.

It was Sergio Fajardo’s turn, former governor of Antioquia and presidential candidate, who spoke about his strategy to strengthen higher education and the support for his candidacy from various sectors. He also defended the arrival of the man who would be the same strategist as then-candidate Gustavo Petro to his campaign.

You have been a teacher for many years. I’ll begin by talking about an issue that concerns Icetex students and to mention some of those issues, for example, the cuts in the number of student spots, delays in disbursements, and high interest rates, as many students today are left without access to university. What will your strategy be to improve and guarantee higher education?

There are two complementary components: public and private education. We want to strengthen both. I believe in quality public-private education, from early childhood to university.

We need to strengthen public universities and, at the same time, work with private universities, which represent nearly 50% of our country’s students, and break with the huge mistake President Petro’s administration made by damaging Icetex. We must recover loans, increase them, and ensure, for example, that a student can start paying later, once they graduate, have a job, and a reasonable portion.

Let’s move on to a highly controversial and not insignificant issue, and it has to do with the strategist currently running your campaign, who was the same one that candidate Gustavo Petro had. I’m talking about Antoni Gutiérrez-Rubí. How did he get involved in your campaign?

As I’ve always done with the people who work with me, I chose him and sought him out, I spoke with him, and I’m responsible for the people I choose. And that’s why, for example, when I’ve been mayor and governor, not a single person associated with me has been investigated for corruption or has had to be convicted by the courts.

I’m the leader, and I determine the instructions and the work we do, and we’re doing very well, with a beautiful campaign. The big launch was on July 20th; we’re multiplying everywhere. If there’s a single action you consider inconsistent with what I say, you can point it out.

But, candidate, when you choose a campaign strategist, it’s because you liked her work in other campaigns. Is there anything you’re going to adopt from the campaign of then-candidate Gustavo Petro, for example?

I called him, I chose him, I worked with him, I’m responsible. We’re doing very well. That’s why I say it’s better to arouse envy than to feel it.

Let’s talk now about total peace, candidate, which is considered by many, by different sectors, as a failure. What will that strategy be in terms of security, for example?

Total peace turned into total chaos. If we don’t have a strong and solid Public Force, it can’t be built; this is something we have to do. We need the authorities to intervene later in Catatumbo, Guaviare, Cauca, and so many other parts of Colombia.

Finally, this is your third aspiration for reaching the Casa de Nariño. Do you consider forming alliances with all political sectors, including the left?

I receive political support from everyone. Campaigns have different timings. Anyone who wants to vote for me can vote for me. The incoming government is going to be the most difficult in history. A person like me who is going to unite must be able to bring together people from the left, the center, and the right. I know how to bring together people, and there are valuable people in all sectors. I am working to unite Colombia.
