En Bogotá se está viviendo, este miércoles 13 de agosto, el último adiós al senador y precandidato presidencial Miguel Uribe Turbay, quien fue víctima de un atentado el pasado 7 de junio en el occidente de la capital y falleció el 11 de agosto. Tras dos días de homenajes en el Salón Elíptico del Congreso, la jornada inició con un acto solemne y culminó con su sepultura en el Cementerio Central.

El día comenzó a las 9:00 a. m. con una ceremonia en el Capitolio Nacional, encabezada por la mesa directiva del Congreso. Allí, familiares, colegas, representantes de varios partidos, delegados internacionales y ciudadanos se reunieron para rendir homenaje al dirigente político de 39 años.

A las 11:40 a. m., se abrieron las puertas del Salón Elíptico para iniciar el traslado del féretro, custodiado por miembros del Batallón Guardia Presidencial. El cortejo recorrió los pasillos del Capitolio y salió hacia la carrera Séptima, en medio de pañuelos blancos que agitaban asistentes y transeúntes como señal de despedida.

Detrás del ataúd caminó su esposa, María Claudia Tarazona; sus hijas María, Emilia e Isabela; su hijo Alejandro, de cuatro años; su padre, Miguel Uribe Londoño, y su hermana, María Carolina Hoyos. También estuvieron presentes congresistas, ministros, gobernadores y delegaciones diplomáticas, entre ellas una comitiva de Estados Unidos encabezada por Christopher Landau, subsecretario de ese país.

Los mensajes de gratitud

La Catedral Primada de Colombia recibió al cortejo hacia el mediodía. Allí, el cardenal Luis José Rueda ofició la misa de exequias, en la que se escucharon mensajes de gratitud y recuerdos de la vida pública de Uribe Turbay. Su padre, visiblemente conmovido, recordó que hace 34 años también tuvo que enfrentar el asesinato de su esposa, la periodista Diana Turbay, cuando su hijo tenía apenas cuatro años, la misma edad que hoy tiene el nieto que queda huérfano.

“Querida María Claudia, has sido muy valiente durante este tiempo de inmenso dolor y tristeza, en el cual, con todo el más grande amor, cuidaste de Miguel y de sus hijos”, expresó Uribe Londoño, dirigiéndose a la viuda de su hijo.

En la ceremonia también se leyeron palabras enviadas por el expresidente Álvaro Uribe Vélez, en las que pidió que la investigación no se limite a los autores materiales del crimen. “Debe llegarse hasta los autores intelectuales”, señaló en el mensaje leído por Gabriel Vallejo, director del Centro Democrático.

Recorrido hacia el Cementerio Central

Finalizada la misa, el cortejo continuó hacia el Cementerio Central, el camposanto más antiguo de la ciudad. Allí se realizó el sepelio en medio de un ambiente de silencio, llanto y gestos de solidaridad hacia la familia.

Durante los dos días de cámara ardiente, más de 8.300 personas ingresaron al Capitolio Nacional para despedirse. Varios departamentos decretaron días de duelo y se organizaron homenajes simultáneos en diferentes ciudades.

El atentado que le quitó la vida ocurrió en la tarde del sábado 7 de junio, cuando se movilizaba en el occidente de Bogotá. Aunque fue trasladado de inmediato a la Fundación Santa Fe, permaneció hospitalizado dos meses hasta su fallecimiento, el lunes 11 de agosto.

Las autoridades continúan las investigaciones para esclarecer los hechos y determinar todos los responsables.

Las imágenes del recorrido fúnebre por el centro de Bogotá muestran a la Guardia Presidencial, a ciudadanos observando desde los andenes y a figuras políticas acompañando a la familia. Behind the coffin walked his wife, María Claudia Tarazona; his daughters María, Emilia, and Isabela; his four-year-old son Alejandro; his father, Miguel Uribe Londoño; and his sister, María Carolina Hoyos. Also present were congressmen, ministers, governors, and diplomatic delegations, including a delegation from the United States led by Christopher Landau, Undersecretary of State for the United States.

Messages of gratitude

The Primate Cathedral of Colombia received the procession around noon. There, Cardinal Luis José Rueda officiated the funeral Mass, during which messages of gratitude and remembrances of Uribe Turbay’s public life were heard. His father, visibly moved, recalled that 34 years ago he also had to face the murder of his wife, journalist Diana Turbay, when his son was just four years old, the same age as his orphaned grandson today.
