FALLECIÓ LA ABUELA DE MIGUEL URIBE TURBAY, NYDIA QUINTERO DE BALCÁZAR, EXPRIMERA DAMA DE COLOMBIA.

A sus 93 años, en Bogotá, falleció este lunes Nydia Quintero de Balcázar, la abuela del senador y precandidato del Centro Democrático Miguel Uribe Turbay. La información en torno a la muerte de la también exprimera dama la confirmó su familia.

Lo que se sabe hasta el momento es que venía presentando problemas de salud y que, incluso, hacía más de seis meses había perdido el habla y tenía que estar –según su familia– atendida por un profesional de la salud las 24 horas del día.

“Dale un abrazo a mi mamá. ¡Qué consuelo saber que ahora están juntas Diana y tú! Dos almas unidas, dos guardianas desde el cielo, intercediendo por el milagro de mi hermano Miguel. Intercede para que llegue pronto, completo y perfecto. Estamos esperando este milagro con la fe intacta», aseguró María Carolina Hoyos Turbay, hija de Diana Turbay y hermana del senador.

De hecho, María Claudia Tarazona, esposa de Miguel Uribe Turbay, hizo uso de sus redes sociales para hacer un homenaje la exprimera dama.

“Doña Nydia, la dama de la solidaridad, partió dejando a Colombia como un lugar mejor. Su vida sembró propósito y luz. Su ejemplo seguirá vivo entre nosotros y será la guía para Miguel, quien honra en cada acto el legado de su abuela”, precisó la abogada.

¿Quién era Nydia Quintero de Balcázar?

La exprimera dama se encontraba en la Fundación Santa Fe desde el pasado 27 de junio siendo atendida por una afección respiratoria. En esa misma clínica se encuentra, desde el 7 de junio, el senador y precandidato Uribe Turbay luego de ser víctima de un ataque sicarial en el occidente de Bogotá, donde pasadas las 5:30 de la tarde un menor de 15 años le disparó tres veces.

Nydia Quintero de Balcázar es la fundadora de la Fundación Solidaridad por Colombia, la cual se creó en 1975 para hacer trabajo social y humanitario. Además, fue la promotora de la Caminata por la Solidaridad.

La exprimera dama fue esposa del expresidente Julio César Turbay Ayala, quien estuvo al frente de la jefatura del Estado entre 1978 y 1982 a nombre del Partido Liberal. No obstante, este matrimonio se anuló en 1986, lo que dio paso a que contrajera nupcias con el también liberal Gustavo Balcázar Monzón.

Quintero de Balcázar, quien había nacido el 22 de octubre de 1931, en Neiva, tuvo que enfrentar la muerte en 1991 de su hija y madre de Miguel Uribe, la periodista Diana Turbay, quien fue secuestrada por el extinto narcotraficante Pablo Escobar y falleció durante un intento de rescate al que la familia siempre se opuso.

Nydia Quintero de Balcázar, the grandmother of Senator and Democratic Center candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay, passed away this Monday at the age of 93 in Bogotá. The information surrounding the former first lady’s death was confirmed by her family.

What is known so far is that she had been experiencing health problems and that, in fact, she had lost her speech for more than six months and, according to her family, had to be cared for by a healthcare professional 24 hours a day.

“Give my mom a hug. What a comfort to know that Diana and you are now together! Two souls united, two guardians from heaven, interceding for my brother Miguel’s miracle. Intercede so that it arrives soon, complete and perfect. We are awaiting this miracle with our faith intact,” said María Carolina Hoyos Turbay, daughter of Diana Turbay and sister of the senator.

In fact, María Claudia Tarazona, wife of Miguel Uribe Turbay, used her social media to pay tribute to the former first lady.

“Doña Nydia, the lady of solidarity, passed away, leaving Colombia a better place. Her life sowed purpose and light. Her example will live on among us and will be a guide for Miguel, who honors his grandmother’s legacy in every act,” the lawyer explained.

Who was Nydia Quintero de Balcázar?

The former first lady had been at the Santa Fe Foundation since June 27th, being treated for a respiratory condition. Senator and presidential candidate Uribe Turbay has been in that same clinic since June 7 after being the victim of a hitman attack in western Bogotá. He was shot three times just after 5:30 p.m. by a 15-year-old boy.

Nydia Quintero de Balcázar is the founder of the Solidarity for Colombia Foundation, created in 1975 to carry out social and humanitarian work. She was also the promoter of the Solidarity Walk.

The former first lady was the wife of former President Julio César Turbay Ayala, who served as head of state from 1978 to 1982 for the Liberal Party. However, this marriage was annulled in 1986, which led to her marriage to fellow Liberal Gustavo Balcázar Monzón.

Quintero de Balcázar, who was born on October 22, 1931, in Neiva, had to face the death in 1991 of his daughter and Miguel Uribe’s mother, journalist Diana Turbay. She was kidnapped by the late drug trafficker Pablo Escobar and died during a rescue attempt, which her family always opposed.
