En el desarrollo de un operación contundente en la ribera del río Pavón, vereda Agua Chiquita, en el municipio de Urrao, Antioquia, tropas del Batallón de Infantería N.º 11 Cacique Nutibara, de la Cuarta Brigada, y la Brigada contra la Explotación Ilícita de Yacimientos Mineros, sostuvieron combates con presuntos integrantes de la Subestructura Edwin Román Velásquez Valle, del GAO Clan del Golfo. En este punto fueron halladas varias unidades de producción minera que operaban maquinaria pesada destinada a la explotación ilícita de minerales.

Durante la operación fueron intervenidas 17 unidades de producción minera, logrando la inhabilitación de 12 clasificadoras, una draga tipo buzo, 9 plataformas metálicas, 24 motores, 10 motobombas, 8 pipetas de nitrógeno, 8 pipetas de gas, 30.000 galones de diésel, 10.000 galones de gasolina, 8 excavadoras y 9 retroexcavadoras, elementos utilizados para la extracción ilegal de oro que fortalecía las economías ilícitas de esta estructura.

Como resultado de la operación, se logró la captura en flagrancia de 18 personas presuntamente relacionadas con la custodia de la maquinaria y las actividades ilegales. La acción permitió una afectación económica estimada en más de 28.000 millones en infraestructura y maquinaria, y la interrupción de una producción aproximada de 4500 gramos de oro al mes, lo que representa un golpe significativo a las finanzas ilícitas del GAO Clan del Golfo.

De igual manera, la operación permitió la intervención de un área aproximada de 22 hectáreas, donde se evidenciaba grave afectación ambiental, incluyendo 8 hectáreas de suelo removido, deforestación y degradación de ecosistemas. La restauración de este entorno tendría un costo estimado de más de 2000 millones y un proceso de recuperación vegetal que podría tardar más de 30 años, dada la magnitud del daño ocasionado.

Este resultado demuestra el compromiso del Ejército Nacional con la protección de la población civil, la defensa del medio ambiente y la lucha frontal contra las economías ilícitas que financian a los grupos armados organizados. 
Las tropas continuarán desarrollando operaciones sostenidas para impedir el avance de actividades criminales que afectan la seguridad, la tranquilidad y el patrimonio natural de los habitantes del departamento de Antioquia.

In a decisive operation on the banks of the Pavón River, in the Agua Chiquita village, in the municipality of Urrao, Antioquia, troops from the 11th Infantry Battalion «Cacique Nutibara,» of the Fourth Brigade, and the Brigade against the Illicit Exploitation of Mining Deposits, engaged in combat with alleged members of the Edwin Román Velásquez Valle Substructure of the Clan del Golfo Organized Armed Group. At this location, several mining operations were discovered, operating heavy machinery used for the illegal exploitation of minerals.

During the operation, 17 mining operations were seized, resulting in the disabling of 12 classifiers, a diving dredge, 9 metal platforms, 24 engines, 10 water pumps, 8 nitrogen cylinders, 8 gas cylinders, 30,000 gallons of diesel fuel, 10,000 gallons of gasoline, 8 excavators, and 9 backhoes. These items were used for the illegal extraction of gold, which fueled the illicit finances of this criminal organization.

As a result of the operation, 18 individuals were arrested in the act, allegedly involved in guarding the machinery and carrying out the illegal activities. The operation resulted in an estimated economic impact of over 28 billion pesos on infrastructure and machinery, and the disruption of approximately 4,500 grams of gold production per month, representing a significant blow to the illicit finances of the Clan del Golfo Organized Armed Group.

Likewise, the operation allowed for the intervention of an area of ​​approximately 22 hectares, where serious environmental damage was evident, including 8 hectares of disturbed soil, deforestation, and ecosystem degradation. Restoring this area would have an estimated cost of over 2 billion pesos and a vegetation recovery process that could take more than 30 years, given the magnitude of the damage caused.

This result demonstrates the National Army’s commitment to protecting the civilian population, defending the environment, and combating the illicit economies that finance organized armed groups.

The troops will continue to conduct sustained operations to prevent the advance of criminal activities that affect the security, peace, and natural heritage of the inhabitants of the department of Antioquia.
