El Coronel Edward Vicente Martínez Anteliz asumió el cargo de comandante de la Octava Brigada del Ejército Nacional el 10 de noviembre de 2024 en Armenia, Quindío, con la misión de garantizar la seguridad en los departamentos de Caldas, Quindío y Risaralda. Desde entonces, lidera a más de 3.000 soldados en la defensa de la tranquilidad de la región, considerada el segundo destino turístico más importante de Colombia.

Bajo su mando, la Brigada ha intensificado operaciones contra grupos armados organizados, logrando capturas estratégicas y la incautación de toneladas de estupefacientes que amenazaban la estabilidad del Eje Cafetero. Estas acciones reflejan el compromiso del oficial con la protección de la ciudadanía y el fortalecimiento de la gobernabilidad en el triángulo cafetero.

El Coronel Martínez Anteliz, con más de dos décadas de servicio, ha ocupado cargos clave en el Ejército como comandante de batallones de ingenieros, director de estrategias y políticas, y responsable de sistemas logísticos. Su experiencia en seguridad y defensa nacional le ha permitido consolidar un liderazgo firme y cercano a la comunidad, orientado a resultados concretos en materia de seguridad.

Además de las operaciones militares, su gestión ha promovido la entrega voluntaria de integrantes de grupos armados y el sometimiento a la justicia, contribuyendo a la reducción de la violencia y al fortalecimiento del tejido social.
