Martes 14 de octubre 2025 – Día Mundial de la Costurera.
Cada momento es una oportunidad para sonreírle a la vida. SONRÍA… SONRÍA… SONRÍA… CON AMOR Y ALEGRÍA, AGRADECIÉNDOLE A DIOS: CADA SEGUNDO DE VIDA. –RUDAFRA.
Es difícil encontrar el origen y año de esta celebración por la carencia de fuentes y datos oficiales, sin embargo, en muchos países se celebra cada 14 de octubre el Día Mundial de la Costurera para agradecer a estas mujeres por su ardua y diaria labor en la creación y confección de prendas. Las celebraciones son realizadas por empresas de la industria textil, sindicatos y costureras particulares que trabajan desde sus hogares. Como curiosidad destacamos que el santo patrón de las costureras, sastres y modistas es San Vicente Mártir.
La costura es en realidad un oficio muy antiguo que se fue desarrollando con el paso del tiempo y que tradicionalmente han venido desempeñando las mujeres. Ya para 1675 Luis XIV había establecido un gremio de costureras de París, debido a que existía una gran demanda de artesanos especializados en este oficio. Durante el siglo XIX la clase burguesa adinerada comenzó a generar un gran interés por la moda en toda Europa, aumentando la demanda en la creación y confección de productos que permitió a las costureras desarrollar su oficio por cuenta propia, cosa que para la fecha estaba prohibido. Posteriormente, con el avance de la industria textil, la oferta de tejidos se diversificó y abarató, aumentando las confecciones manuales.

It is difficult to find the origin and year of this celebration due to the lack of official sources and data. However, in many countries, World Seamstress Day is celebrated every October 14 to thank these women for their hard, daily work in creating and making garments. The celebrations are held by textile industry companies, unions, and individual seamstresses working from their homes. Interestingly, the patron saint of seamstresses, tailors, and dressmakers is Saint Vincent the Martyr.
Sewing is actually a very ancient craft that developed over time and has traditionally been performed by women. By 1675, Louis XIV had established a seamstresses’ guild in Paris, due to the high demand for artisans skilled in this trade. During the 19th century, the wealthy bourgeois class began to generate a great interest in fashion throughout Europe, increasing the demand for the creation and manufacture of products that allowed seamstresses to pursue their trade independently, something that was prohibited at the time. Later, with the advancement of the textile industry, the supply of fabrics became more diverse and cheaper, leading to an increase in handcrafted items.
