El 7 de agosto se homenajea a una de las edificaciones situadas en paisajes espectaculares frente a océanos imponentes, que sirven de guía a las embarcaciones en las noches y en los días de tormenta. Se celebra el Día Mundial de los Faros, con la finalidad de reconocer y divulgar su importancia en la señalización marítima.
Los faros son grandes construcciones en forma de torre. Poseen un sistema de iluminación conformado por un foco luminoso y un mecanismo de giro, útiles en la navegación nocturna. Generalmente se ubican en las entradas de los puertos, islotes y costas rodeadas de arrecifes.
Este día mundial de los Faros surgió inicialmente en Estados Unidos de América, conocido como el Día Nacional del Faro, para conmemorar la firma de la Ley para el Establecimiento y el Apoyo de Faros, Balizas, Boyas y Muelles Públicos aprobada por el Congreso de los Estados Unidos, en 1789. Posteriormente varios países se adhirieron a esta celebración, denominándola «Día Mundial del Faro» o “Lighthouse Day”.

On August 7th, one of the buildings located in spectacular landscapes facing imposing oceans is honored, which serve as a guide to ships at night and on stormy days. World Lighthouse Day is celebrated with the purpose of recognizing and disseminating their importance in maritime signaling.

Lighthouses are large tower-shaped constructions. They have a lighting system consisting of a light source and a turning mechanism, useful for night navigation. They are generally located at the entrances to ports, islets and coasts surrounded by reefs. This World Lighthouse Day initially arose in the United States of America, known as National Lighthouse Day, to commemorate the signing of the Law for the Establishment and Support of Lighthouses, Beacons, Buoys and Public Docks approved by the United States Congress in 1789. Later, several countries joined this celebration, calling it «World Lighthouse Day» or «Lighthouse Day».
