La Autoridad Marítima Colombiana amplió sus capacidades en la región insular del país con la entrada en operación del bote ARC ‘Isla San Andrés’, una unidad destinada a fortalecer las labores técnicas, científicas y de control en el archipiélago de San Andrés, Providencia y Santa Catalina.

​Su incorporación permite avanzar en los objetivos de seguridad marítima y presencia estatal en una zona estratégica del Caribe.

El ARC ‘Isla San Andrés’ está equipado para realizar investigaciones marítimas, levantamientos batimétricos, búsqueda y rescate, inspecciones costeras y control de actividades náuticas.

Estas funciones aportarán información clave para la navegación y permitirán una coordinación más robusta con el cuerpo de guardacostas de la Armada de Colombia en tareas de vigilancia y respuesta operativa.

La puesta en servicio de esta unidad es resultado del trabajo conjunto entre el Gobierno nacional y la Gobernación del Archipiélago, en el marco del plan estratégico de la Dirección General Marítima (DIMAR), orientado a reforzar la seguridad y mejorar las condiciones marítimas de la población isleña.

La ceremonia de incorporación se llevó a cabo en la Estación de Guardacostas de San Andrés Isla, presidida por el director general marítimo, almirante John Fabio Giraldo Gallo, quien destacó que esta unidad representa un avance en investigación, operación y acompañamiento a las comunidades costeras e insulares.

El ARC ‘Isla San Andrés’ mantiene el legado de embarcaciones que han llevado este nombre, asociadas al liderazgo de la Autoridad Marítima Colombiana y su trabajo en favor de mares seguros y sostenibles.

Características

Diseñada por Safe Boats International y construida por la Corporación de Ciencia y Tecnología para el Desarrollo de la Industria Naval, Marítima y Fluvial (Cotecmar), la embarcación cuenta con ecosonda multihaz para apoyar la cartografía náutica nacional, una autonomía de hasta cinco días, capacidad para seis tripulantes, alcance de 900 millas náuticas y velocidad máxima de 25 nudos.

Con su entrada en operación, la Dimar reafirma el fortalecimiento de las acciones de control, investigación y seguridad en el mar Caribe colombiano.

The Colombian Maritime Authority (Dimar) has expanded its capabilities in the country’s island region with the commissioning of the ARC ‘Isla San Andrés’ vessel, a unit designed to strengthen technical, scientific, and control efforts in the archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia, and Santa Catalina.

Its addition allows progress toward maritime security objectives and a stronger state presence in a strategic area of ​​the Caribbean.

The ARC ‘Isla San Andrés’ is equipped to conduct maritime research, bathymetric surveys, search and rescue operations, coastal inspections, and control of nautical activities.

These functions will provide key information for navigation and allow for more robust coordination with the Colombian Navy’s Coast Guard in surveillance and operational response tasks.

The commissioning of this vessel is the result of joint work between the national government and the Archipelago’s Governorate, within the framework of the General Maritime Directorate’s (DIMAR) strategic plan, aimed at strengthening security and improving maritime conditions for the island population.

The commissioning ceremony took place at the San Andrés Island Coast Guard Station, presided over by the Director General of Maritime Affairs, Admiral John Fabio Giraldo Gallo, who emphasized that this vessel represents an advance in research, operations, and support for coastal and island communities.

The ARC ‘Isla San Andrés’ continues the legacy of vessels that have borne this name, associated with the leadership of the Colombian Maritime Authority and its work in favor of safe and sustainable seas.

Designed by Safe Boats International and built by the Science and Technology Corporation for the Development of the Naval, Maritime, and Riverine Industry (Cotecmar), the vessel is equipped with a multibeam echosounder to support national nautical charting, an endurance of up to five days, capacity for six crew members, a range of 900 nautical miles, and a maximum speed of 25 knots.
