Presidente Petro propuso a pescadores de la cuenca del río Magdalena crear cooperativas y una gran federación para que se integren a la Reforma Agraria

Al insistir en que su Gobierno está cumpliendo las promesas de campaña que hizo para el Magdalena Medio, el presidente Gustavo Petro invitó a los pescadores de la cuenta del río Magdalena a que se organicen en asociaciones y crear una gran federación que les permita comercializar mejor e integrarse a las actividades agropecuarias que se plantean en la Reforma Agraria.

Durante su intervención en la firma del contrato de concesión APP del corredor férreo La Dorada–Chiriguaná en la Dorada (Caldas), el jefe de Estado comentó que dentro de los logros que se han tenido en su gobierno se entregaron “cerca de 470 hectáreas a la Cooperativa de Pescadores de Honda”.

“Yo quiero que este programa no sea exclusivamente para Honda, sino que todas las cooperativas de pescadores a lo largo del río Magdalena, y en esto espero que me ayuden a unirlos: Barranca, Dorada, El Banco, seguro que hacia el sur también Honda, Girardot, quizás hay más, las ciénagas de Puerto Berrío, las ciénagas aledañas, la ciénaga de Santa Marta que está, podamos juntar una federación de asociaciones de pescadores”, dijo.

Explicó que este Gobierno “quiere que la actividad de la pesca se junte con la agricultura, de tal manera que cuando ya no hay peces, no hay subienda, pueda cultivarse el campo y pueda mantenerse el ingreso familiar”.

Manifestó que esta iniciativa busca brindar apoyo para el desarrollo de la agroindustria de la pesca de mar y de río y para lograr este objetivo el primer paso es “la cadena de frío para que el pez se pueda congelar y no venga el especulador a comprarlo a precio de huevo, porque el precio de los huevos lo estamos bajando radical y sustancialmente en Colombia”. 

Sustentó la propuesta argumentando que “la Asociación de Pescadores, que se vuelven agricultores en el río Magdalena, y mover este tren de tal manera que pueda llevar entonces la producción agraria de todo el valle del río Magdalena, su producción industrial, no solamente a las demás ciudades de Colombia, sino, ojalá, exportar allá en el puerto de Santa Marta, a donde llegará este mismísimo tren”.

En su intervención, el mandatario también destacó los avances que se tienen para garantizar la educación de los jóvenes colombianos.

“Aquí La Dorada ha sido testigo, no podemos cimentar esa agricultura y esa industria que crecen en manos de gente que trabaja si no hay saber: 280 hectáreas acabamos de entregar a la Universidad de Caldas en La Dorada, para que allí se haga un campus universitario que albergue, incluso con unidades residenciales, para los estudiantes de fuera de La Dorada”, reveló.

Añadió que “6.000 estudiantes en educación superior, pública y gratuita en La Dorada, no estoy hablando de que vamos a, sino que entregamos la tierra para empezar y los recursos para construir”.

Aseguró que “creo que le estamos cumpliendo a La Dorada y al Magdalena Medio de Colombia. La Reforma Agraria en el Magdalena Medio se tiene que acelerar”. President Petro proposed that fishermen in the Magdalena River basin create cooperatives and a large federation to integrate them into the Agrarian Reform.

Insisting that his government is fulfilling the campaign promises he made for the Middle Magdalena, President Gustavo Petro invited fishermen in the Magdalena River basin to organize into associations and create a large federation that will allow them to better market and integrate into the agricultural activities proposed in the Agrarian Reform.

During his speech at the signing of the PPP concession contract for the La Dorada–Chiriguaná railway corridor in La Dorada (Caldas), the head of state mentioned that among the achievements of his administration were the delivery of «approximately 470 hectares to the Honda Fishermen’s Cooperative.»

“I want this program not to be exclusively for Honda, but for all the fishing cooperatives along the Magdalena River, and in this I hope you will help me unite them: Barranca, Dorada, El Banco, certainly Honda to the south, Girardot, perhaps there are more, the Puerto Berrío swamps, the surrounding swamps, the Santa Marta swamp, we can form a federation of fishing associations,” he said.

He explained that this government “wants fishing to be combined with agriculture, so that when there are no more fish, there is no rise in the river, the land can be cultivated and family income can be maintained.”

He stated that this initiative seeks to provide support for the development of the marine and river fishing agroindustry, and to achieve this goal, the first step is «the cold chain so that the fish can be frozen and speculators don’t come and buy them at rock-bottom prices, because we are radically and substantially lowering the price of eggs in Colombia.»

He supported the proposal by arguing that «the Fishermen’s Association, who are becoming farmers on the Magdalena River, and moving this train in such a way that it can then transport the agricultural production of the entire Magdalena River Valley, its industrial production, not only to other Colombian cities, but also, hopefully, to export to the port of Santa Marta, where this very train will arrive.»

In his speech, the president also highlighted the progress made in guaranteeing the education of Colombian youth.

“Here, La Dorada has been a witness. We can’t build the agriculture and industry that thrive in the hands of working people if there’s no knowledge. We just handed over 280 hectares to the University of Caldas in La Dorada, so they can build a university campus there, including residential units for students from outside of La Dorada,” he revealed.

He added that “6,000 students in higher, public, and free education in La Dorada. I’m not saying we’re going to, but rather we’re handing over the land to get started and the resources to build.”

He asserted that “I believe we are fulfilling our promise to La Dorada and the Magdalena Medio region of Colombia. Agrarian Reform in the Magdalena Medio region must be accelerated.”
