Aunque mucho se ha hablado de las irregularidades presentadas en materia de orden público en el desarrollo de las elecciones regionales, especialmente en municipios donde hay presencia de grupos armados ilegales, el caso más sonado fue el ataque presentado a la sede de la registraduría del municipio de Gamarra en el Departamento del Cesar,  donde lamentablemente perdió la vida la funcionaria Dupertí Arévalo.
