Domingo 3 de mayo 2026 – Día Mundial de la Libertad de Prensa.
LA VERDAD COMO NORTE: REFLEXIÓN EN EL DÍA MUNDIAL DE LA LIBERTAD DE PRENSA.

En este Día Mundial de la Libertad de Prensa, nos encontramos en un punto de inflexión necesario para repensar el ejercicio informativo en nuestra sociedad contemporánea. La libertad de expresión y de prensa son pilares fundamentales de cualquier democracia, pero conllevan una responsabilidad que no puede ser ignorada: la fidelidad a la colectividad.
Bajo ninguna circunstancia debemos confundir la Libertad de Prensa con la defensa de intereses particulares. Cuando la pluma o el micrófono se ponen al servicio de agendas privadas, corporativas o egoístas, se desvirtúa la esencia misma de nuestra profesión. El periodismo no es un arma de manipulación, sino un instrumento de liberación a través del conocimiento.
Para que la libertad de prensa sea auténtica y constructiva, debe estar cimentada sobre cuatro valores innegociables que guían nuestro oficio: Veracidad: La búsqueda incansable de la realidad de los hechos, alejándonos de las noticias falsas y la especulación que nubla el juicio ciudadano. / Respeto: El reconocimiento de la dignidad de las personas y de las instituciones, ejerciendo la crítica con altura y sin caer en la degradación del otro. / Ética: La brújula moral que nos permite discernir entre lo que se puede publicar y lo que se debe publicar en favor de la integridad profesional. / Servicio al bienestar común: Entender que nuestra labor cobra sentido únicamente cuando contribuye al progreso, la justicia y el bienestar de la sociedad en su conjunto.
Hoy, más que celebrar un derecho, renovamos un deber. La libertad de informar es el compromiso de mantener una sociedad despierta, crítica y bien informada. En este 2026, reafirmamos que el periodismo debe seguir siendo ese faro que, ligado a la ética y al servicio, ilumina el camino hacia un bienestar compartido, protegiendo siempre la verdad por encima de cualquier interés mezquino.

TRUTH AS OUR GUIDING WAY: A REFLECTION ON WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY

On this World Press Freedom Day, we find ourselves at a necessary turning point to rethink the practice of journalism in our contemporary society. Freedom of expression and of the press are fundamental pillars of any democracy, but they carry with them a responsibility that cannot be ignored: loyalty to the community.
Under no circumstances should we confuse press freedom with the defense of private interests. When the pen or the microphone are put at the service of private, corporate, or selfish agendas, the very essence of our profession is distorted. Journalism is not a weapon of manipulation, but an instrument of liberation through knowledge.

For press freedom to be genuine and constructive, it must be founded on four non-negotiable values ​​that guide our profession: Truthfulness: The tireless pursuit of the facts, distancing ourselves from fake news and speculation that clouds public judgment. / Respect: The recognition of the dignity of individuals and institutions, exercising criticism with dignity and without resorting to degrading others. / Ethics: The moral compass that allows us to discern between what can be published and what should be published in the interest of professional integrity. / Service to the common good: Understanding that our work only has meaning when it contributes to the progress, justice, and well-being of society as a whole.

Today, more than celebrating a right, we renew a duty. Freedom of information is the commitment to maintaining an engaged, critical, and well-informed society. In 2026, we reaffirm that journalism must continue to be that beacon which, linked to ethics and service, illuminates the path toward shared well-being, always protecting the truth above any petty interest.
