Cada 20 de diciembre celebramos el Día Internacional de la Solidaridad Humana, una fecha que nos recuerda el poder que tiene la unión y el apoyo mutuo para hacer un mundo mejor. Se trata de una fecha oficial promulgada por la Asamblea General de la ONU en 2005 a través de una resolución oficial. -Este día no es solo un símbolo, sino una llamada a la acción para todos. Todos podemos hacer algo bueno para construir un mundo más justo y solidario, y luchar juntos contra la pobreza. Porque la solidaridad no es solo un valor universal, es una herramienta imprescindible para alcanzar el bienestar de todos los pueblos.
Teniendo en cuenta que la solidaridad es considerada uno de los valores fundamentales en las relaciones internacionales en el contexto de la globalización para la construcción de una sociedad más equitativa, la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas promulgó en el año 2005 el Día Internacional de la Solidaridad.
La palabra solidaridad proviene del latín «solidus» que significa «solidario». Es definida como un valor humano, sustentado en el apoyo a una causa o interés ajeno de manera voluntaria, imparcial y desinteresada, especialmente en situaciones de la vida cotidiana o de gran magnitud, como desastres naturales, guerras, movimientos de refugiados. En resumen, la solidaridad consiste en ayudar a otros que lo necesitan, sin esperar nada a cambio. La única retribución de la solidaridad es sumar pequeños gestos para lograr grandes cambios en la humanidad.
