Ejército Nacional capturó a cinco personas por explotación ilegal de oro en zona rural de Suárez

Se estima que extraían mensualmente cerca de 600 gramos de oro, lo que estaba generando un grave daño ambiental por la deforestación causada en el área.

Hasta la vereda Batatas, en el municipio de Suárez (Tolima), llegaron tropas del Batallón de Infantería N.° 18 Coronel Jaime Rooke, de la Sexta Brigada del Ejército Nacional, en una operación coordinada con la Policía Nacional de Carabineros, la Fuerza Aeroespacial Colombiana y Cortolima, para capturar a cinco personas que estarían realizando actividades de extracción ilegal de oro sobre la ribera del río Magdalena.

La operación se realizó luego de varios meses de seguimiento. Al requerirles los permisos para la actividad minera y constatar que no contaban con ninguna autorización legal, se procedió a su captura. 

En el lugar fueron incautados varios elementos utilizados para la explotación ilícita, entre ellos motores, bateas, clasificadoras, palas, picas, pomas y rollos de manguera, con un valor aproximado de 48 millones de pesos.

Con esta actividad ilegal, estas personas obtenían ingresos mensuales cercanos a los 266 millones de pesos por la comercialización del oro extraído.

Los dos hombres y las tres mujeres capturados quedaron a disposición de la autoridad competente por el presunto delito de explotación ilícita de yacimientos mineros y otros materiales.

Este resultado operativo representa un importante avance en la protección del medioambiente, ya que la deforestación causada por esta actividad generaba un impacto ambiental severo, con un tiempo estimado de recuperación de hasta 30 años.

Troops from the 18th Infantry Battalion Colonel Jaime Rooke, of the Sixth Brigade of the National Army, arrived in the Batatas village, in the municipality of Suárez (Tolima), in a coordinated operation with the National Police, the Colombian Aerospace Force, and Cortolima, to capture five people who were allegedly carrying out illegal gold mining activities on the banks of the Magdalena River.

The operation was carried out after several months of surveillance. After requesting mining permits and verifying that they did not have any legal authorization, they were arrested.

Several items used for the illegal exploitation were seized at the scene, including motors, pans, sorting machines, shovels, picks, bottles, and hose reels, with an approximate value of 48 million pesos.

Through this illegal activity, these individuals earned monthly income of approximately 266 million pesos from the sale of the extracted gold.

The two men and three women captured were placed in the custody of the competent authorities for the alleged crime of illegal exploitation of mining sites and other materials.

This operational result represents an important advance in environmental protection, as the deforestation caused by this activity generated a severe environmental impact, with an estimated recovery time of up to 30 years.
