Modernización del Ecoparque El Vergel: avanza con la entrega de su primera etapa por parte de Fontur y el Ministerio de Comercio, Industria y Turismo.

El alcalde de Pereira, Mauricio Salazar, en el 2024, respaldó la apuesta de ciudad para ejecutar el Convenio de Cooperación entre el Ministerio de Comercio, Industria y Turismo; el Fondo Nacional del Turismo (Fontur), la Sociedad de Mejoras de Pereira pro Risaralda y el Municipio para lograr modernizar el Ecoparque El Vergel. La inversión realizada fue de $14.156 millones de pesos (10.578 millones aportes a través de FONTUR, 3.578 millones del Municipio, y el ala Sociedad de Mejoras con el predio, estudios y diseños).

La secretaria Privada, Marcela Motta, en representación del alcalde Salazar, destacó: “Nos sentimos privilegiados como pereiranos porque esto es un sueño de ciudad. En este ecoparque El Vergel hay 22 hectáreas dentro de la ciudad, así que va a ser para toda la familia, para los niños, para los jóvenes, para los adultos mayores”.

Entre las obras ejecutadas se destacan la portería, módulos administrativos, piscinas, salón multipropósito, módulo deportivo, módulo de comidas, café, plazoleta, canchas sintéticas, senderos, deck, concha acústica y fuentes luminosas. Adicionalmente, la Alcaldía de Pereira ha realizado intervenciones complementarias como pavimentación de accesos, adecuación de parqueaderos, senderos peatonales y labores de mantenimiento permanente.

“Esta es una apuesta de infraestructura turística para Pereira y para el Eje Cafetero. No solo nos permite generar condiciones de calidad para la prestación del servicio, sino también dignificar la vida de las personas y las comunidades que viven alrededor de este parque”, aseguró la ministra de Comercio, Industria y Turismo, Diana Marcela Morales Rojas.

La secretaria de Infraestructura, Diana Osorio, explicó: “Ahora tenemos listas las obras de la primera etapa. Esperamos empezar el alistamiento administrativo y operativo para poder, en el segundo semestre del año, abrir las puertas de este Ecoparque. Hoy estamos recibiendo esta primera etapa del Ecoparque El Vergel. 
Un sueño de ciudad que nuestro alcalde Mauricio Salazar se comprometió a cumplir”.

Este parque, cuyo origen se remonta a la década de 1960 como un bosque municipal y espacio de recreación, representa hoy una apuesta por la recuperación de la memoria colectiva y el fortalecimiento del tejido social. 

“Hoy estamos en uno de esos días que se quedarán para siempre en el alma, entregándole de la mano de Fontur y del municipio de Pereira a nuestra ciudad un gran regalo para los pereiranos. En este bosque urbano de 22 hectáreas se está entregando hoy una infraestructura turística”, señaló Ana María Cuartas, directora ejecutiva de la Sociedad de Mejoras.

Finalmente, Flor Marina Buitrago, habitante de la Comuna El Poblado, destacó la importancia de estas obras. “Pues, estoy muy feliz, hace muchos años estábamos esperando este ecoparque y gracias a Dios ya se dio, porque la verdad es muy favorable para los niños del barrio poder venir a jugar fútbol y todo”.

Modernization of El Vergel Ecopark: Progress Advances with the Delivery of its First Phase by Fontur and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism.

In 2024, the mayor of Pereira, Mauricio Salazar, endorsed the city’s commitment to implementing the Cooperation Agreement between the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism; the National Tourism Fund (Fontur); the Pereira Improvement Society for Risaralda; and the Municipality to modernize El Vergel Ecopark. The investment totaled $14.156 billion pesos (10.578 billion pesos contributed through FONTUR, 3.578 billion pesos from the Municipality, and the Improvement Society’s contribution of the land, studies, and designs).

Private Secretary Marcela Motta, representing Mayor Salazar, emphasized: “We feel privileged as residents of Pereira because this is a dream come true for the city. This El Vergel eco-park covers 22 hectares within the city limits, so it will be for the whole family—for children, for young people, for senior citizens.”

Among the completed works are the gatehouse, administrative offices, swimming pools, a multipurpose hall, a sports complex, a food court, a café, a plaza, synthetic turf fields, walking paths, a deck, an amphitheater, and illuminated fountains. Additionally, the Pereira City Hall has carried out complementary improvements such as paving access roads, upgrading parking areas, creating pedestrian walkways, and performing ongoing maintenance.

“This is a significant investment in tourism infrastructure for Pereira and the Coffee Region. It not only allows us to create quality conditions for service provision, but also to improve the lives of the people and communities living around this park,” stated the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Diana Marcela Morales Rojas.

The Secretary of Infrastructure, Diana Osorio, explained: “The first phase of construction is now complete. We expect to begin the administrative and operational preparations so that we can open the doors of this Ecopark in the second half of the year. Today we are receiving this first phase of the El Vergel Ecopark. A dream for the city that our mayor, Mauricio Salazar, committed to fulfilling.”

This park, whose origins date back to the 1960s as a municipal forest and recreational space, now represents a commitment to recovering collective memory and strengthening the social fabric.

“Today is one of those days that will forever be etched in our hearts, as we, together with Fontur and the municipality of Pereira, deliver a wonderful gift to our city. This 22-hectare urban forest is the site of a new tourist infrastructure project,” stated Ana María Cuartas, Executive Director of the Improvement Society.

Finally, Flor Marina Buitrago, a resident of the El Poblado district, emphasized the importance of these works. “I’m so happy. We’ve been waiting for this eco-park for many years, and thank God it’s finally here. It’s truly wonderful for the neighborhood children to be able to come and play soccer and everything else.”
