Hoy, jueves 25 de enero, se conmemoran 25 años del desvastador terremoto que dejó su huella en el Eje Cafetero, espcialmente en la ciudad de Armenia; sin embargo pereira también  tubo destrucción y perdida de vidas, marcando el inicio de un proceso de reconstrucción  en toda la región.

Era un lunes 25 de enero de 1999, 1:19 de la tarde, cuando Armenia experimentó un sismo de magnitud 6.2 en la escala de Richter, seguido por l4 réplicas, la más potente ocurrió a la 5:40p.m. con una intensidad e 5.4 grados.

Este evento terminó de tumbar lo que estaba tambaleando y ocasionó cientos  de muertes más, en especial de quienes estaban volcados sobre los escombros, ayudando en el rescate de los atrapados

Este fenómeno natural ocasionó una significativa cantidad de pérdidas humanas, heridos y afectados, demás de causar daños en la infraestructura física, se vieron afectadas viviendas tanto urbanas como rurales, edificaciones privadas y públicas, establecimientos comerciales y financieros, así como la red vial y aeroportuaria.

La interrupción de suministro de servicios públicos  domiciliarios como gas, acueductos, alcantarillado y energía, contribuyó a la complejidad de la situación.

1230 muertos,5300 heridos, 50 mil edificaciones afectadas, 200.000 personas afectadas por el sismo.

Las perdidas estimadas en armenia fueron de $750 mil millones de pesos.

Armenia, Calarcá córdoba, la tebaida, circasia, filandia, Montenegro, pijao, quimbaya y Salento,

Today, Thursday, January 25, marks 25 years since the devastating earthquake that left its mark on the Coffee Region, especially in the city of Armenia; However, Pereira also suffered destruction and loss of life, marking the beginning of a reconstruction process throughout the region.

It was Monday, January 25, 1999, 1:19 in the afternoon, when Armenia experienced an earthquake of magnitude 6.2 on the Richter scale, followed by 14 aftershocks, the most powerful occurring at 5:40 p.m. with an intensity of 5.4 degrees.

This event ended up knocking down what was staggering and caused hundreds more deaths, especially of those who were overturned on the rubble, helping in the rescue of those trapped.
