Extraditados a Estados Unidos dos integrantes de red transnacional dedicada al tráfico de migrantes.

En una acción coordinada entre la Agencia de Investigaciones de Seguridad Nacional de los Estados Unidos –HSI– e INTERPOL Colombia, fueron extraditados alias ‘Calvo’, y alias ‘Hernando’, señalados de integrar una red criminal transnacional dedicada al tráfico de migrantes irregulares en el Caribe colombiano.

Ambos sujetos fueron capturados el pasado 30 de noviembre de 2023 durante el desarrollo de una operación conjunta, coordinada e interagencial entre la Armada Nacional, el Ejército Nacional, la Fuerza Aeroespacial Colombiana, la Fiscalía General de la Nación y Migración Colombia, en el marco de un caso especializado liderado por Inteligencia Naval, que permitió establecer su participación directa en actividades ilícitas que comprometían la seguridad marítima y la integridad de los migrantes.

Alias ‘Calvo’, estaría encargado de abordar a militares de la Institución Naval con el fin de obtener información sensible que facilitara el movimiento ilícito de embarcaciones. Así mismo, coordinaba la salida de lanchas cargadas con migrantes irregulares desde San Andrés hacia Nicaragua, articulándose directamente con alias “Hernando”, quien sería el principal cabecilla de esta organización.

Por su parte, alias ‘Hernando’, habría desempeñado el rol de coordinador y guía, encargado de captar migrantes y ofrecerles rutas ilegales tanto por San Andrés Islas como por la selva del Darién, con destino final a Nicaragua. Su papel dentro de la estructura criminal lo posicionaba como uno de los responsables de la logística y direccionamiento de estas operaciones.

Es relevante señalar que estos dos individuos se convierten en los primeros ciudadanos colombianos en ser extraditados a los Estados Unidos por el delito de tráfico de migrantes, un hecho que marca un precedente judicial para el país y refuerza la cooperación internacional contra el crimen organizado.

La Armada Nacional mantiene su firme compromiso con la legalidad, la transparencia y la protección de la vida humana en el mar, y continuará trabajando de manera articulada con las autoridades nacionales e internacionales para enfrentar a las redes delictivas que afectan la seguridad regional y vulneran los derechos de las personas en condición de migración irregular.

Two members of a transnational migrant smuggling network extradited to the United States.

In a coordinated operation between the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and INTERPOL Colombia, alias «Calvo» and alias «Hernando» were extradited. They are accused of being part of a transnational criminal network dedicated to smuggling irregular migrants in the Colombian Caribbean.

Both individuals were captured on November 30, 2023, during a joint, coordinated, and interagency operation involving the Colombian Navy, the Colombian Army, the Colombian Aerospace Force, the Attorney General’s Office, and Colombia Migration, as part of a specialized case led by Naval Intelligence. This operation established their direct involvement in illicit activities that compromised maritime security and the safety of migrants.

Alias ​​’Calvo’ was allegedly responsible for approaching members of the Naval Institution to obtain sensitive information that would facilitate the illicit movement of vessels. He also coordinated the departure of boats loaded with undocumented migrants from San Andrés to Nicaragua, working directly with alias «Hernando,» who is believed to be the main leader of this organization.

For his part, alias ‘Hernando’ allegedly acted as coordinator and guide, responsible for recruiting migrants and offering them illegal routes both through San Andrés Island and through the Darién jungle, with Nicaragua as their final destination. His role within the criminal structure positioned him as one of those responsible for the logistics and direction of these operations.

It is important to note that these two individuals are the first Colombian citizens to be extradited to the United States for the crime of migrant smuggling, a fact that sets a legal precedent for the country and strengthens international cooperation against organized crime.

The Colombian Navy remains firmly committed to legality, transparency, and the protection of human life at sea, and will continue working in close coordination with national and international authorities to combat criminal networks that threaten regional security and violate the rights of people in irregular migration situations.
