“Estamos repitiendo errores del pasado”: Benedetti tras ataque al congresista Triana

Durante el Tercer Comité de Coordinación y Recomendación de Medidas de Protección en el proceso electoral – CORMPE Congreso. El ministro del Interior hizo un llamado urgente a los líderes políticos del país a bajar el tono de la confrontación y actuar con responsabilidad

Bogotá, 14 de agosto de 2025 (@MinInterior)-. Desde las primeras horas del día, el jefe de la cartera política, Armando Benedetti, encabezó esta sesión, orientada a fortalecer la seguridad de los congresistas en ejercicio y de los precandidatos que participarán en las elecciones de 2026.

La jornada estuvo marcada por el análisis del atentado contra el representante a la Cámara, Juan Fernando Triana, y contó con la participación del ministro de Defensa, Pedro Sánchez; la cúpula militar y de Policía; el director de la Unidad Nacional de Protección (UNP), Augusto Rodríguez; delegados de la Procuraduría General de la Nación, entre otros actores institucionales.

Durante el Comité, se discutieron estrategias integrales de protección, el fortalecimiento de la presencia institucional en las regiones y medidas para garantizar condiciones de seguridad en el marco del calendario electoral. También se definieron acciones de articulación y eficiencia operativa entre entidades como la UNP, la Fuerza Pública y los órganos de control.

En su intervención, Benedetti advirtió: “Si algo puede contribuir a la seguridad y al buen desarrollo de las próximas elecciones es el lenguaje. Debemos dejar atrás la confrontación que se ha intensificado, especialmente desde ayer. Parece que estamos repitiendo los mismos errores del pasado, y si seguimos por ese camino, los únicos beneficiados serán las mafias, los delincuentes, los grupos al margen de la ley y las estructuras criminales”.

También alertó sobre las consecuencias de la polarización entre líderes políticos: “Si nuestros dirigentes o actores políticos no comprenden esto, estamos condenados a repetir la historia. Lo que vemos es una confrontación entre personas que sí se conocen, que termina provocando la muerte de personas que no se conocen. Ese ha sido el patrón en la historia de nuestro país”. afirmó el ministro Benedetti.

Finalizó haciendo un llamado a la responsabilidad política y a frenar los discursos que alimentan el odio y la división: “Cuando actores políticos importantes llevan su pugna personal al extremo, el resultado es odio, división y tragedias que debilitan la democracia y golpean al país. Es momento de reflexionar y actuar con responsabilidad”

Bogotá, August 14, 2025 (@MinInterior)-. From the early hours of the day, the head of the political portfolio, Armando Benedetti, led this session, aimed at strengthening the security of sitting congressmen and pre-candidates who will participate in the 2026 elections.

The session was marked by an analysis of the attack on House Representative Juan Fernando Triana, and included the participation of Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez; the military and police leadership; the director of the National Protection Unit (UNP), Augusto Rodríguez; delegates from the Attorney General’s Office, among other institutional actors.

During the Committee meeting, comprehensive protection strategies, the strengthening of institutional presence in the regions, and measures to guarantee security conditions within the framework of the electoral calendar were discussed. Coordination and operational efficiency actions were also defined between entities such as the UNP, the Public Forces, and oversight bodies.

In his speech, Benedetti warned: “If anything can contribute to the security and smooth conduct of the upcoming elections, it is language. We must leave behind the confrontation that has intensified, especially since yesterday. It seems we are repeating the same mistakes of the past, and if we continue down this path, the only ones who benefit will be the mafias, criminals, outlaw groups, and criminal structures.”

He also warned about the consequences of polarization among political leaders: “If our leaders or political actors do not understand this, we are doomed to repeat history. What we see is a confrontation between people who know each other, which ends up causing the deaths of people who do not know each other. That has been the pattern in the history of our country,” stated Minister Benedetti.

He concluded by calling for political responsibility and a halt to the discourse that fuels hatred and division: “When important political actors take their personal feud to the extreme, the result is hatred, division, and tragedies that weaken democracy and batter the country. It is time to reflect and act responsibly.”
