Un nuevo escenario se abre en el fútbol colombiano en la ciudad de Pereira, donde la negativa del presidente del Deportivo Pereira, Álvaro López, de vender la ficha deportiva del equipo local ha detonado una reacción imprevista entre el empresariado. Ante la imposibilidad de adquirir al cuadro histórico, varios inversionistas de la Perla del Otún han acelerado sus planes para comprar la licencia de otro club, ya sea de la Liga Colombiana o del Torneo, con el objetivo de traerlo a la ciudad y lograr que Pereira cuente con dos equipos en el escenario profesional.

La iniciativa surge como una respuesta directa a la estela de incertidumbre que rodea la gestión reciente del club «tigrero», cuya prioridad inicial para estos grupos empresariales era salvar al Deportivo Pereira de una posible quiebra o salida de la ciudad. Sin embargo, al comprobar que la venta de la institución no es viable, la estrategia ha cambiado radicalmente: ahora el foco está en la creación de un nuevo proyecto deportivo que compita en paralelo, duplicando la representación de la capital risaraldense en las divisiones mayores del fútbol profesional.

Esta maniobra busca aprovechar el alto fervor de la afición pereirana, que históricamente ha mostrado un apoyo incondicional, lo que hace viable la idea de sostener dos escuadras en la misma urbe. Los empresarios involucrados argumentan que la ciudad tiene la capacidad económica y el talento para albergar una segunda franquicia, lo que podría dinamizar aún más la economía local y el turismo deportivo. No obstante, la viabilidad de que dos equipos de la misma ciudad coexistan en un escenario competitivo tan exigente como la Categoría Primera A o B es un tema de debate constante entre los analistas del deporte nacional.

La situación ha generado un clima de tensión y expectativa en la hinchada, dividida entre quienes apoyan la idea de tener mayor representación y quienes temen que la fragmentación de recursos debilite al club histórico.
