Colombia y Chile fortalecieron la cooperación antártica en la Región de Magallanes.

En el marco de la VIII Campaña Aérea de la Fuerza Aeroespacial Colombiana, la delegación colombiana desarrolló una agenda de trabajo institucional en la Región de Magallanes, en el contexto de los 203 años de relaciones diplomáticas entre Colombia y Chile, consolidando la cooperación bilateral en ciencia, operaciones aéreas y proyección aeroespacial.

La comisión colombiana, encabezada por el Mayor General Edgar Alexander Salamanca Rodríguez, agradeció el apoyo brindado por el Gobierno Regional de Magallanes, las autoridades chilenas y las instituciones científicas del país anfitrión, resaltando el papel estratégico de esta región como puerta de acceso al territorio antártico y como plataforma logística internacional para el desarrollo de la investigación científica.

Como parte de la agenda, se sostuvo una reunión con el Director del Instituto Antártico Chileno (INACH), Gino Casassa, en la cual la FAC expresó su agradecimiento por el apoyo brindado durante los veranos australes, especialmente por la acogida de investigadores colombianos en la Base Profesor Julio Escudero y en la Base General Bernardo O’Higgins, instalaciones que permitieron consolidar la presencia científica nacional en el continente blanco.

Asimismo, se resaltó el acompañamiento de Chile a la hoja de ruta de Colombia para alcanzar el estatus de País Consultivo del Sistema del Tratado Antártico, durante la 28.ª Reunión Consultiva del Tratado Antártico en Hiroshima, Japón.

Las autoridades del Gobierno Regional de Magallanes, representadas por la Gobernadora Subrogante Eugenia Mancilla Macías, reiteraron su compromiso de fortalecer las relaciones con Colombia y de continuar generando condiciones que facilitaran el desarrollo del conocimiento científico, consolidando a la región como plataforma de servicios logísticos antárticos.

Estas actividades contaron con el acompañamiento del personal diplomático de Colombia en Chile y ratificaron el compromiso de ambos países con el fortalecimiento de la cooperación antártica, la investigación científica internacional y el desarrollo de capacidades aeroespaciales al servicio de la paz.

Colombia and Chile strengthened Antarctic cooperation in the Magallanes Region.

Within the framework of the Colombian Aerospace Force’s VIII Air Campaign, the Colombian delegation carried out an institutional work agenda in the Magallanes Region, in the context of the 203rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Colombia and Chile, consolidating bilateral cooperation in science, air operations, and aerospace projection.

The Colombian commission, headed by Major General Edgar Alexander Salamanca Rodríguez, expressed its gratitude for the support provided by the Regional Government of Magallanes, the Chilean authorities, and the scientific institutions of the host country, highlighting the strategic role of this region as a gateway to the Antarctic territory and as an international logistics platform for the development of scientific research.

As part of the agenda, a meeting was held with the Director of the Chilean Antarctic Institute (INACH), Gino Casassa, in which the Colombian Air Force (FAC) expressed its gratitude for the support provided during the austral summers, especially for hosting Colombian researchers at Professor Julio Escudero Base and General Bernardo O’Higgins Base, facilities that have allowed for the consolidation of the national scientific presence on the white continent.

Likewise, Chile’s support for Colombia’s roadmap to achieve Consultative Party status with the Antarctic Treaty System was highlighted, during the 28th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting in Hiroshima, Japan.

The authorities of the Magallanes Regional Government, represented by Acting Governor Eugenia Mancilla Macías, reiterated their commitment to strengthening relations with Colombia and to continuing to create conditions that facilitate the development of scientific knowledge, consolidating the region as a platform for Antarctic logistics services.

These activities were accompanied by Colombian diplomatic personnel in Chile and reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to strengthening Antarctic cooperation, international scientific research and the development of aerospace capabilities in service of peace.
