89 AÑOS DE AMOR A PEREIRA

Al cierre del décimo mes del 2023, se abrieron las páginas obras de amor a Pereira, en la celebración de 89 años de fundación del Club Rotario, para recordar las manos progresistas del doctor Jorge Roa Martínez, quien recibió el acta constitutiva expedida en Chicago-Estados Unidos, el 27 de octubre 1934, con la frase del promotor de Rotary Internacional, Paul Harris: “Jamás debemos ser indiferentes a los problemas de las comunidades en las que vivimos”.

Hoy, el actual Presidente de Rotarios Pereira, Padre Nelson Giraldo Mejía de corazón matecaña, refiere algunas de las obras del Club: Hospital San Jorge. Unidos a otras Instituciones, fundaron la Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira. Terrenos para el Batallón San Mateo. Jorge Roa Martínez planeó sabiamente la ciudad (inclusive aún se ejecutan sus trazados): pavimentación de vía Pereira-Armenia. Construcción de los principales parques de la ciudad; entre ellos: Parque Rafael Uribe Uribe, Plaza de Bolívar, Parque La Libertad, Parque Olaya Herrera.

La misión benefactora de los Rotarios en Pereira, es animada con el coro de su Himno: Como el sol que la espiga madura / con sus rayos de eterna igualdad / nuestro Rotary es sol que procura / encender nuestro amor la amistad / Dar de sí sin la espera egoísta/ del mundo favor personal / es el lema rotario el artista / que hace buena la arcilla del mal.

Al estimar que las “Obras son amores, y no buenas razones”, se estrechan manos amigas para celebrar 90 años del Club Rotario Pereira, impulsados por su Junta Directiva (2023-2024): Presidente Padre Nelson Giraldo Mejía. Luis Enrique Arango Jiménez –Vicepresidente. Secretaria Ejecutiva –Juliana Montes. Secretaria General –Yadira Flórez Pérez. Tesorera –Fanny Vallejo. Macero –doctor Oswaldo Castilla.

El Club Rotario Pereira hace parte del Distrito 4281, conjuntamente con Valle, Quindío, Caldas, Risaralda, Antioquia y Bogotá. Y, está registrado como Padrino de los Rotarios: “Pereira Perla del Otún”, “Santa Rosa de Cabal”, “Buga” y otros.

El carismático Padre Nelson Mejía, aplica una frase de la presidenta de Rotary Internacional, Jennifer Jones: “No se imagina el ayer, hay que imaginar el mañana”, identificándose como amigos para servir y entregar una obra de amor en la celebración de los 90 años de fundación del Club Rotario Pereira en el 2024.

89 YEARS OF LOVE FOR PEREIRA

At the close of the tenth month of 2023, the pages of works of love for Pereira were opened, in celebration of the 89 years of founding of the Rotary Club, to remember the progressive hands of Dr. Jorge Roa Martínez, who received the charter issued in Chicago. United States, on October 27, 1934, with the phrase of the promoter of Rotary International, Paul Harris: “We must never be indifferent to the problems of the communities in which we live.”

Today, the current President of Rotarians Pereira, Father Nelson Giraldo Mejía with a heart from Mateca, refers to some of the Club’s works: San Jorge Hospital. Together with other Institutions, they founded the Technological University of Pereira. Land for the San Mateo Battalion. Jorge Roa Martínez wisely planned the city (even its layouts are still being executed): paving of the Pereira-Armenia highway. Construction of the main city parks; among them: Rafael Uribe Uribe Park, Plaza de Bolívar, La Libertad Park, Olaya Herrera Park.

The beneficent mission of the Rotarians in Pereira is animated with the chorus of their Anthem: Like the sun that ripens the ear / with its rays of eternal equality / our Rotary is a sun that seeks / to light our love and friendship / Giving of itself without selfish waiting / from the world personal favor / is the Rotary motto the artist / who makes good the clay of evil.

Considering that “Works are loves, and not good reasons”, friendly hands are shaken to celebrate 90 years of the Pereira Rotary Club, promoted by its Board of Directors (2023-2024): President Father Nelson Giraldo Mejía.
