GOOD LOSER
By: Rubén Darío Franco Narváez.
“I discovered that life is a game of chance where the winner loses” –Ricardo Arjona Morales –Guatemalan singer-songwriter.
The good loser does not stop playing, because – without accepting it – he suffers from miserable gambling addiction. Millions of exploiters take advantage of this disease. The Monte-Carlo Casino is world famous (with great fortunes that derive juicy taxes; but gambling is prohibited to the citizens of the Principality of Monaco).
Exploiters reject cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, with stress management techniques, empowerment and acceptance of the condition, desensitization to gambling; and in many cases, inclusion in support groups. But… they do support gamblers to avoid problems, betting on money or material goods, to improve their moods.
In the Coffee Region, gambling addicts proliferate, destroying homes, wasting fortunes and risking everything for nothing; drowned in their miserable illness, spinning the musical chorus “El Apostador” by the Mexican Natalia Lafourcade on a roulette wheel: “I’ve had it all / I’ve lost it all / I need something to make me breathe.”
The player joyfully shouts: “Love is like poker, sometimes you have to bet to have a chance of winning.” But… when all your resources have gone, you feel that your mind offers you nothing; for everything is darkness, and he considers that his life is meaningless. That is the same appreciation that disturbed the Antiochi…
