Nos relata el profesor Ángel Alonso Arroba, Vicerrector de La Escuela de Políticas, economía y Asuntos Globales de IE University, en Portafolio, el diario líder en economía y negocios de Colombia, en su artículo del 31 de agosto de 2023, sobre la visión que los Brics tienen de su lugar en el mundo, tras cumplir sus quince años, en reciente reunión en Johannesburgo Sudáfrica.

Para Ángel Alonso: Brasil, Rusia, India, China y Sudáfrica, representa el 32% de la economía global; y los seis nuevos países invitados: Arabia Saudí, Argentina, Egipto, Emiratos, Etiopia e Irán, solo representan el 3.2% de la misma. La formidable China seguirá reafirmando su nuevo papel de pacificadora mundial; pero tiene un socio muy conflictivo, como lo es el presidente Ruso Vladimir Putin, por sus nostalgias imperiales.

Por su parte, el Excanciller Colombiano Luis Carlos Villegas, en su artículo: “Brics y Noal”, del 27 de agosto de 2.023, para El Tiempo de Colombia, nos dice que, cuando O´ Neil inventó “Los Brics”, estaba fresco el final de La Guerra Fría y el fin de la Historia de Fukuyama; y que China ya era una potencia global, pero que estaba en el juego de cooperar con occidente; mientras que la ascendente India, juega a acercarse a Rusia y a EE.UU. al mismo tiempo.

El ánimo de las actuales Brics, no es tanto el de la Cooperación Económica entre ellas sino derrotar a Estados Unidos y Europa remplazándolas forzosamente. Rusia fue suspendida de la OCDE el año pasado y su petróleo solo está en el 30% de su cotización y Moscú sabotea el abastecimiento de granos al África. Ojalá que el Presidente Gustavo Petro entienda que la invitación a que Colombia haga parte de Las Brics sería como tomar partido en contra de los intereses nacionales.

Professor Ángel Alonso Arroba, Vice Chancellor of the School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs at IE University, tells us in Portafolio, the leading newspaper in economics and business in Colombia, in his article dated August 31, 2023, about the vision that the Brics have their place in the world, after turning fifteen, at a recent meeting in Johannesburg South Africa.

For Ángel Alonso: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa represent 32% of the global economy; and the six new invited countries: Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Egypt, the Emirates, Ethiopia and Iran, only represent 3.2% of it. Formidable China will continue to assert its new role as world peacemaker; but it has a very conflictive partner, Russian President Vladimir Putin, due to his imperial nostalgia.

For his part, Former Colombian Foreign Minister Luis Carlos Villegas, in his article: «Brics y Noal», dated August 27, 2023, for El Tiempo of Colombia, tells us that when O’Neil invented «Los Brics», he was fresh the end of the Cold War and the end of the Fukuyama Story; and that China was already a global power, but that it was in the game of cooperating with the West; while the rising India plays to get closer to Russia and the US at the same time.

The spirit of the current Brics, is not so much that of Economic Cooperation between them but to defeat the United States and Europe by forcibly replacing them. Russia was suspended from the OECD last year and its oil is only at 30% of its price and Moscow sabotages the grain supply to Africa. I hope that President Gustavo Petro understands that the invitation for Colombia to be part of Las Brics would be like taking sides against national interests.
