El adiós al soldado insignia: Honor y gloria para el General Mora Rangel.

Con profundo respeto y una visible emoción, las Fuerzas Militares de Colombia rindieron el último homenaje al General (r) Jorge Enrique Mora Rangel, en una ceremonia fúnebre que congregó al alto mando militar y a la familia del país. El Almirante Francisco Cubides Granados, Comandante General de las Fuerzas Militares, pronunció un discurso que resonó en el corazón de los asistentes, despidiendo a un hombre cuya trayectoria «marcó para siempre la historia reciente de nuestro país».

El Almirante Cubides inició su intervención honrando a un «soldado insignia,» un colombiano cuya vida estuvo indisolublemente ligada al valor, el honor y el sacrificio. Subrayó que, para el General Mora, el uniforme era un «compromiso sagrado» y que cada paso, misión y decisión estuvo guiada por la convicción de que servir a la patria es el más alto deber.

El homenaje se centró en el rol inquebrantable del General Mora durante los capítulos más desafiantes de la historia reciente de Colombia. Al asumir la comandancia del Ejército Nacional en 1998, en medio de «años de confrontación intensa, de amenazas crecientes,» allí, en la adversidad, «emergió el temple militar. Allí se consolidó su grandeza,» afirmó Cubides.

Pero fue en el corazón del Caguán, en un momento de opresión y desconcierto nacional, donde el General Mora pronunció la frase que se convertiría en un faro para toda la institución: «La Fuerza Pública no está de rodillas».

El Comandante General enfatizó la trascendencia de esta declaración, describiéndola no como una respuesta política, sino como un «pronunciamiento ético, una afirmación de dignidad institucional, una defensa de la honra militar.» Esta lección, recordó el Almirante, enseñó a generaciones enteras que la fortaleza moral no se negocia y que jamás debe inclinarse ante la intimidación.

Su liderazgo alcanzó su punto culminante en 2002, al ser nombrado Comandante General de las Fuerzas Militares. Bajo su dirección, el país pudo «recuperar la iniciativa, fortalecer la seguridad nacional y restablecer la confianza en las instituciones».

El Almirante Cubides recordó el carácter del General Mora: no simplemente fuerte, sino «templado, forjado en el combate y la academia.» Su autoridad era ejercida con cercanía, pues «comprendía a la tropa, cuidaba de ella, reconocía su esfuerzo».

Al dirigirse a la familia —su esposa, Gloria Oviedo de Mora, y sus hijos José Fernando y Juan Diego—, el Almirante extendió el acompañamiento de soldados, marinos y aviadores, honrando no solo al comandante, sino al «ser humano noble, reservado y profundamente comprometido» con los suyos.

Al despedir a su comandante, el Almirante Cubides reconoció que hoy su ausencia «pesa, duele y conmueve,» pero a la vez, «ilumina».

«Los hombres como él, no desaparecen; viven en las banderas que ondean libres, en el corazón de cada soldado, marino y aviador,» expresó. El General Mora deja un legado firme en la institucionalidad: la disciplina, la valentía y la humildad.

«Usted nos enseñó que el liderazgo se ejerce con entereza, que la disciplina es un acto de amor a la patria, que la dignidad no se negocia y que la paz también es un deber,» concluyó el Comandante General, encomendando su alma a Dios.

Las Fuerzas Militares le dijeron adiós al gran referente, con el respeto reservado para los hombres que trascienden, sellando el tributo con un reconocimiento eterno:

«Honor y gloria al señor general Mora Rangel, Colombia lo reconoce. Su fuerza militar es enorme y la historia lo acoge como uno de sus grandes defensores. Descanse en paz. The Commander-in-Chief emphasized the significance of this declaration, describing it not as a political response, but as an «ethical pronouncement, an affirmation of institutional dignity, a defense of military honor.» This lesson, the Admiral recalled, taught entire generations that moral fortitude is non-negotiable and must never yield to intimidation.

His leadership reached its zenith in 2002 when he was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Under his direction, the country was able to «regain the initiative, strengthen national security, and restore confidence in institutions.»

Admiral Cubides recalled General Mora’s character: not merely strong, but «tempered, forged in combat and academia.» His authority was exercised with approachability, as he «understood the troops, cared for them, and recognized their efforts.»

Addressing the family—his wife, Gloria Oviedo de Mora, and his sons, José Fernando and Juan Diego—the Admiral extended the condolences of soldiers, sailors, and airmen, honoring not only the commander, but also the «noble, reserved, and deeply committed human being» to his people.

In bidding farewell to his commander, Admiral Cubides acknowledged that today his absence «weighs heavily, hurts deeply, and moves us,» but at the same time, «illuminates.»

«Men like him do not disappear; they live on in the flags that wave freely, in the heart of every soldier, sailor, and airman,» he expressed. General Mora leaves a firm legacy within the institution: discipline, courage, and humility.

«You taught us that leadership is exercised with integrity, that discipline is an act of love for the homeland, that dignity is non-negotiable, and that peace is also a duty,» the Commander-in-Chief concluded, entrusting his soul to God.

The Armed Forces bid farewell to their great leader, with the respect reserved for men who transcend, sealing the tribute with eternal recognition:
