Ejército Nacional neutralizó a alias Demetrio, presunto articulador financiero del GAO ELN en el Cauca.

El resultado se obtuvo en medio de combates sostenidos con integrantes del GAO ELN, en una operación que permitió afectar las capacidades de esta estructura armada en el oriente del departamento.

Gracias a labores de inteligencia y operaciones militares coordinadas, tropas de la Vigésima Novena Brigada de la Tercera División, con el apoyo y las capacidades del Grupo de Caballería Liviano N.° 8 y el Gaula Militares Cauca, lograron la neutralización de alias Demetrio o Espagueti, presunto articulador financiero del Frente de Guerra Suroccidental, del GAO-ELN. Este resultado operacional se produjo durante combates registrados en el corregimiento de Paniquita, vereda El Diviso, zona rural del municipio de Totoró, Cauca.

Alias Demetrio, con más de tres décadas en estructuras armadas ilegales, tenía antecedentes por su participación en acciones terroristas y en el secuestro masivo de la iglesia La María, en Cali. En 2014 fue capturado en una operación coordinada entre las Fuerzas Militares y la Policía Nacional, pero posteriormente habría regresado a la organización criminal, desempeñándose como articulador financiero del Frente de Guerra Suroccidental del ELN, coordinando economías ilícitas y redes de apoyo logístico en los departamentos de Cauca y Huila.

Durante la operación se aplicaron los protocolos establecidos en el marco del derecho internacional humanitario. En el área se incautaron armas cortas, munición, proveedores, detonadores, granadas hechizas, material de intendencia, equipos de comunicación y propaganda alusiva al ELN, los cuales fueron puestos a disposición de las autoridades competentes para los actos urgentes correspondientes.

Este resultado representa una afectación directa a las capacidades armadas, financieras y logísticas del GAO ELN en el suroccidente del país, debilitando su estructura de mando y control territorial en el oriente del Cauca.

Con esta acción, el Ejército Nacional reafirma su compromiso con la seguridad, estabilidad y tranquilidad de los caucanos, en cumplimiento de su misión constitucional de proteger a la población civil y mantener el orden en el territorio nacional.

Thanks to intelligence work and coordinated military operations, troops from the Twenty-Ninth Brigade of the Third Division, with the support and capabilities of the 8th Light Cavalry Group and the Cauca Military Gaula (Gaula Militares Cauca), successfully neutralized alias Demetrio or Espagueti, alleged financial coordinator of the ELN (National Army of the National Liberation Army)’s Southwestern War Front. This operational result occurred during combat in the Paniquita district, El Diviso village, a rural area of ​​the municipality of Totoró, Cauca.

Alias ​​Demetrio, with more than three decades of experience in illegal armed groups, had a criminal record for his involvement in terrorist attacks and the mass kidnapping at the La María church in Cali. In 2014, he was captured in a coordinated operation between the Military Forces and the National Police, but later allegedly returned to the criminal organization, serving as a financial coordinator for the ELN’s Southwestern War Front, coordinating illicit operations and logistical support networks in the departments of Cauca and Huila.

During the operation, protocols established under international humanitarian law were applied. Handguns, ammunition, ammunition, detonators, homemade grenades, quartermaster supplies, communications equipment, and propaganda alluding to the ELN were seized in the area and handed over to the competent authorities for the corresponding urgent actions.

This result represents a direct impact on the armed, financial, and logistical capabilities of the ELN GAO in the southwest of the country, weakening its territorial command and control structure in eastern Cauca.

With this action, the National Army reaffirms its commitment to the security, stability, and tranquility of the people of Cauca, in fulfillment of its constitutional mission to protect the civilian population and maintain order in the national territory.
