Participants in the council included Major General Arnulfo Novoa, Deputy Director General of the National Police; Brigadier General Gerardo Ortiz Ramírez, Commander of the Eighth Division; and Brigadier General Samuel Salinas, Commander of the 18th Brigade. Governor Renson Martínez, the departmental Secretary of Government, and the 52nd Riverine Battalion of the Marine Infantry, as well as delegates from the Ombudsman’s Office, the Attorney General’s Office, the Colombian Prosecutor’s Office, Migration Colombia, and the Colombian Family Welfare Institute, were present. First, the commander of the 18th Brigade expressed his solidarity with Senator Jairo Castellanos and with the families affected by the recent criminal acts and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment against terrorist structures. Military operations against organized armed groups have resulted in 15 deaths of FARC dissidents during military operations, as well as 54 captures and 6 deaths of members of the ELN Eastern War Front during military operations, all in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office and the National Police. Furthermore, it was announced that to strengthen security, 240 new soldiers will be deployed and trained to protect the Marginal de la Selva and Libertadores highway corridors. Another topic addressed was the need to bridge communication gaps with political candidates, requesting the support of the governor and the Attorney General’s Office to coordinate effective security meetings. For this purpose, the Army will employ advanced technology, such as drones and armored vehicles, to guarantee democratic participation and the free movement of the civilian population within the constitutional framework.
